Just got my xl 5 installed that i bought on another forum. WOW what a difference, is there a way to limit the rev.? i mean it goes just as fast forward as it does in reverse.

Thanks i saw that, but im running the stock hpi radio. Is there a way to adjust the throttle trim knob to limit the rev.?

if you scroll down on that page, you will see that you can program the xl-5 esc, doesn't matter what radio you are using.. it's got three modes:

Sport Mode (Profile #1: 100% Forward, 100% Brakes, 100% Reverse)
Race Mode (Profile #2: 100% Forward, 100% Brakes, No Reverse)
Training Mode (Profile #3: 50% Forward, 100% Brakes, 50% Reverse)

beyond that, you'll have to get a radio that allows you to dampen the throttle, brakes, etc to adjust it further..

I would guess it's only good to about 9v or so... maybe 10v if you really want to push it.. jumping from 2s to 3s is a pretty significant leap.. a fully charged 3s is 12.6v! when I put a 2s back on my MERV you really get a sense of how much more power a 3s is.. anyways.. 2s with a good motor should get the WK moving along nicely! on a 3s you're just going to break stuff.

3s would be to much, it would let the magic smoke out.

What is a MERV?

XL5 is a decent budget ESC comming in many RTR vehicles.

for sure it will be. I went from a 6cell to a 2s zippy 20c 5000mah on my stock king on an ESC that was a lot like the stock esc and it did wake the truck up... it's not just the top end, but the power on demand factor... it's so punchy! once you've used lipo for a while and go back to nimh, for me at least, it felt like I was driving in mud or something..

I can't even do a wheelie with the stock battery. I'm trying not to get too excited over how big the difference will be with my new lipo batteries :drool

Well that great to hear. Just purchased a lipo capable charger in preparation for lipos. What exactly is the C rating for? So you guys think a 2s will deff. wake it up :tmb

The XL-5 can handle up to 8 cells, manufactures say it's 9.6 volts, but If you check the voltage on a new 8 cell you'll see it right around 12.6 volts. Same as a lipo 3s. The light weight of a lipo makes it much faster than the heavy 8 cell.

I've been running 3s lipo in my WK on an XL-5 for 2 years now. It works fine. I did strip the gears out of the rear axial. I have the hardened steel MT 2 gears now. The HPI 14.4 volt motor is working perfect with my XL-5 and 3s. All is good.

I don't know what would happen with a high power BL set-up on 3s.

I had my waterproof XL5 and Great Planes S-600 19t motor (7.2-8.4V) on 2s for a few minutes just to see the difference in performance. I was a little nervous about it, never goosed too hard or went full throttle. Even tho it's a wet-weather truck, it was a dry day so there wasn't any puddles that needed avoiding.

I also put a 2s in my HPI Sprint 2 Drift with stock esc/motor, big difference. Again, I didn't romp it hard so not to cook the stock electronics. Wish I could afford a BL system for my drifter but I don't run it a whole lot so there's really no point in rushing it.
