thinking about getting a short course truck. ive been looking at the traxxas slash, redcat vortex, and the losi desert truck. im stuck at which one to get. i was hoping you guys here can help me. im not going to be racing. it will just be used around my house which is gravel roads, grass and some dirt trails close to my house. i really like the looks of the losi. i like the idea of 4wd with the vortex. and ive read alot about the slash. as for depenability and options what is a better one to get. everyone has different opinions so id like to hear some comments from all. thanks for the help in advance

The Vortex is smaller and really kinda disproportioned, but it's cheap and brushless. Slash is durable and more realistic and 2wd, though I personally like the SC10 and new HPI looks better. To me the desert truck is just another stadium truck with a slightly different body. Again, my personal opinion is that short course is all about fenders covering the tires, which the vortex barely does by the way. My eventual plan is to have the best of both worlds and do what WilliamG did with his vortex, stretched to fit an SC10 body, or maybe HPI, and slash tires. Then you get 4wd, brushless, and all the scale looks for a great economical price. That's asuming you can do a little bit of fab work. Again, those are my opinions and the vortex is the only SCT I've owned, though a stampede is pretty closely related to a slash.

-you could look around, and buy a decent used setup---it may even include spare parts or aftermarket stuff. That'd get you running, then wait a while until you see what all of the Co.'s are going to do. Used isn't a bad thing, and it's going to get beat-up anyway:willy

Right now I'd be looking into the HPI Blitz over the losi, slash and SC10. I think of those the HPI is going to be the better basher.

Now the Ofna, that one I am really looking forward to seeing it's going to be based off the ofna hyper mini which gets good reviews.

Have they solved all of their durability issues with their trucks??? I have had excessive plastic breakage with every truck I have had from HPI especially the Nitro MT
I don't know about that. I do know it's based off the e-firestorm which is supposed to be a pretty decent truck. I have had Wheely Kings and had good luck with those. Check around forums and see what people say about the e-firestorm. If that's decent the Blitz should be as well.

I love the crap outta my Slash. It may not be the best handling truck and stay planted but I could stand for it to be one of the only RC's I have. The WK isn't one of the best handling either but it's another that I'll never get rid of. I could be happy if all I owned was my WK and Slash.

The 7700 might have some heat issues being a high RPM motor. I can never remember what combo Savage03 has in his but I remember he got help from someone at Castle with gearing to help keep the system cool. I hear a lot about a mamba max w/VXL motor being a great combo for the Slash. Just keep an eye on temps and you should be set.

Anything above the 4600 people are having over heating issues, I even have them after I ditched the FLM tranny case :bang I have a 5700. The gearing joe ford says to use is 90/13.

Savage03 had mashers on his for a bit. Tho he has/had wide arms cuz he put his together from a Pede he had. I'd imagine they'd be pretty good. They get pretty good reviews from people who have them on other vehicles

Why thank you. lol nice shots, the proline lid does actually look really good on the clod and I tried it on the savage to which looks awesome as well, soon as I can get out of our financial mess I wanna get a lid for the savage maybe the new j concepts one which looks pretty slick.

the vxl is 3500kv
I personaly think that's perfect, more than enough. The castle 4600 is better than your 7700kv, but still a bit on the too fast side.

What works well is between 2800kv and 4000kv, 4600kv being just ok.

I've said before those are all guys need, and for stupid fun speed runs pop a 3s lipo in.
