Sorry to bring back an old thread but just wanted to say that brake fluid worked fine to remove the chrome on the stock chassis. I let each plate soak for about 12 hours and it brushed right off. Horrible stuff to work with though, wear gloves and goggles.

Just get a can of spray on oven cleaner, it will have the chrome off in 15 minutes.
and use a tooth brush to clean corners.

Then just rinse with water.
Purple power can clean it off too.....
