What they say is all true...

So I finally purchased and built my first Clod. I've been into RC trucks for quite a while, but never purchased (or even seen) a Clod before. I decide to go the stock-ish route as I wanted a simple all-around basher/mudder.

The mild mods are rubber sealed bearings, Super Rooster ESC, ESP shock lift kit, locked both diffs, 4x4x4 with a TowerPro 995 servo, Titan torque sleeves over the stock motors.

Pretty much what people say about stock Clods seems to be true, both good and bad. And I'm not sure what to think about being a Clod owner.

Compared to my Trials/Crawler type trucks, the Clod seems plenty fast for me. The big, bouncy ride is pretty funny. The handling is okay, turning is pretty lousy. I haven't tried muddin' yet, as even here in Oregon it is bone dry right now.

I was really trying to avoid lots of mods on this truck and I know that putting the steering servos on the axle will help alot, but now I'm not sure if this is really even best for bashing.

I have a long neglected Stampede that probably is a better basher from a durability stand point.

Any of you long time Clod owners have any wisdom for a confused Clod newbie?

Changing the chassis to an aftermarket one will make a huge difference in performance. Axle mounting the servos will as well, and almost every chassis out there uses that style mount. Having them there on a basher won't hurt anything.

I would say just keep it stock for a while and enjoy it for what it is. You can always make modifications later on if you want, but a truck is usually only stock once.

As crazy as it sounds, especially coming from a guy that has modified all his trucks to the max, sometimes I wish that I still had a Stock Clod. They're still fun and they look great too!

one thing that you haven't mentioned is that once you own a clod, no matter how long you are away from the hobby, the clod will bring you right back. Like I did.

A great thing about the clod is that you build you parts to improve on it.
Pretty sure if you look around you'll find some great DIY mods to improve you steering
