I found when I shaved my clod tires I took an average of 2 oz of each tire...so doing the math I took a 1/2 pound off the truck. That is a significant difference!
i just finished my Army truck tire shaving and the access i trimmed off and sanded did equal 8 1/2 oz for all four tires that is a lot from just the rotating mass :burn

Tom,
My question is how many days have you set aside to clean all the black dust from the sanding? :laugh Man that stuff goes EVERYWHERE

What I found to help control and contain the black dust is to get at good size cardboard box and cut 2 holes for you hand/arm to go through them and a plexiglass cover for viewing and sand the tires inside (like a sand blasting chamber or a incubater) thay way all you have to clean is whats exposed inside the box. I also use the flex extension on my rotoray tool so the motor is not exposed to the dust.

What I found to help control and contain the black dust is send them out to be done. :laugh I live in a small apt, and last time I did it I burned out a dremel and had to clean for days afterwards.

Spring raffle truck will have tires sanded by John. Everybody say ''thanks John''. :wnk

When I've done mine I take the majority of material off with a set of xeron rail nippers and then with a shopvac hose clamped to my workbench I would sand down the rest of the tire facing the vacuum. Very little to clean up afterwards, kind of noisy but does the trick.

Yeah.. having someone else do it for you is a good ideia.. But HawMT said he is not doing any more shaved clod tires.. hehe

Yeah.. I too snip off the majority before sanding.. less wear and tear on the rotary tool..

can you make a plate for the front links, drill through the balls and capture them between axle case and plate with conical washers??

Love what you did to the tires, they came out excellent. :tmb

lookin good, though! hows it feel temp wise?
if its not too hot, you should pop in the 15t pinion.
i bet youd loose hardly any torque, but get more speed.
