TXT-1 Lower Links

Hi, some of you guys may be following my restoration tread in this forum, thanks for all the advice, I'm really looking forward to getting my TXT-1 up to scratch and running.

I have a problem with the lower links that I wanted to throw out to suggestions and information. The ones I have are rock-rashed to heck and all but one are bent at the sway bay through-holes. My dad and I agree pretty much that the design of poking the sway-bar through the link holes is poor as the links are tube and it compromises the stiffness a lot at that point.

Anyone made their own, or sourced some better designed ones? I'd like to keep the sway-bars if possible but am open to alternative designs of link bar.

4mm threaded rod and 6mm OD alloy tube from your local DIY store. Capped off with 4mm Traxxas rod ends. Sorted.

Cat: I'd already looked at that but I've had rod/tube links bend on heavy landings on my WK before now where the bar clipped the ramp or something on the ground. No lower link bar is indestructible, I know, but I at least want them to be as strong as possible. My TXT-1 is *heavy* (well at the moment it's not as it's in bits in trays, but I digress :)) so I want something tough. Also using tube/rod doesn't give anywhere for the sway bars to fit, and I want to retain them.

I considered turning then out of 8mm solid round alloy bar also but again they wouldn't be stiff enough.

RC4WD has stainless steel rods in variouse lengths. I've used them building superclass rock crawlers. Very tough, very rigid.

Problem is ... hard to drill wholes through unless you have a machine shop at your disposal. Or you're going to have to find another method to attach the sway bars.

What thickness of sway bar are you using? If around 3mm (1/8"), could CPE shock mounts be adapted? They fit round the links.

I gave up trying to figure it out ... findind tougher lower links, and just went with the stock ones. But what I was contiplatings was taking 3mm rod drilling wholes in the chassis, and using clamp to hold the ends of the sway bars. I think the shock mounts from RC4WD could be adapted to worl for this purpose.

There is a company that makes the perfect clamps. You just have to do some minor modification. I can't think of the websight unfortunatley.

RC4WD or the ones from CPE both look the same (shock mounts). It should be able to be adapted. It won't be a perfect fit, and it'll probably take alot of tinkering, but it should work.

Personally I just went with the tamiya ones. Less thinking, less farting around. If your going to go the harder route don't get discouraged if it doesn't work the first time.

Trial and error are all part of the hobby!

Mike (DEVASTATOR) has sorted me out with a set of 4 solid bar lower links with the sway bar holes drilled. Should sure her up a bit :)

I'll report on them when they arrive (in about 2 weeks knowing what post from the USA is like!!)

I have 4 little sway-bar retainers that make a neater job of holding the ends than the stock set-up, but otherwise the sway bars are stock ones from the kit.
