I have just purchased my very own Traxxas SledgeHammer. I don't really know to much about this truck besides i never seen or heard of it. Can anybody tell me about this?

the sledgehammer was introduced in 1989 and was traxxas's first venture into the true monster truck class. there are 3 versions of the truck - white plastic with gold skids ('89-'92), white chassis with black skids ('93-'94), and black chassis with blue skids ('95-'02) - to the best of my knowledge the truck was discontinued in '02 but '04 sticks in my head as well. many parts are still available for the truck in the black plastic versions. bodies and decal sheets have become very hard to come by within the last 2 years, so if you have a clear body, use it wisely.

some mods that i use on my sledges to bring them up to today's spec is to only run 4 shocks (much smoother ride) and to swap the stock differential for a nitro stampede differential. this moves the output yokes outside the tranny case so you don't have to tear the truck apart to change the drive yoke. other than that, full bearings, 4 shocks and a decent balanced set of tires will make the truck come alive as well as a torquey motor (mag mayhems run great in this truck).

all in all, a fun truck and i'll probably always hold onto mine because i restored it to almost original form and it runs great for me.

ok thanks a lot! So what kind of price do these run restored now? I just am not sure if i want to mess with this truck or throw it to someone else.

-carcrusher, I think you mean (2nd version), was black chassis w/ black skids,
the girl that lived next to me, (kinda was a Tom-boy), had a Sledge that was bought brandy-new, blk-on-blk.:)

I remember I always wanted one as a kid. I liked the one in there ad, it was all white plastic and had a blue body, and the two shocks per wheel...cool truck.

yea tha is a nice one. I am having trouble finding parts for the truck though. Anyone have any ideas of a vintage rc parts store?

I always liked my Sledge, it was my 2nd RC truck way back when. All I did was put in bearings and Monster Mash motor and ran the heck out of it

I sold that in 93 after I had tucked the wheels and tires under the fenderwells of a Blackfoot body that I put on it. (my 1st scaler)

swap the stock differential for a nitro stampede differential.
Is it still laying around, The old tranny I still had, works great in my burban build.

The sledge was the second truck I ever owned. I remember not liking it too much because it was very wheelie prone, and not stable due to the short suspension arms. It was an ok truck but I liked my king blackfoot much better so I ended up selling it soon after. Then I bought the pede and the difference between it and the sledge was night and day. The sledge is good for bashing but thats about it.

black on black MAY have been early 3rd version

but white on black was the second version from 93-94 I have one right here

even traxxas' website says they never made black on black, but like I said it could have been an early 3rd version where they had black plates left over

and here is where I used a spare first version trans in a TLT (probably the first to do so, but I'm not sure of that)

-Guys, I looked all over, & can't find a pic of blk.-on-blk. Sledgehammer. Maybe I was wrong? I'm sorry if I wasted anyone's time, or got anybody's hopes up. :-(
