Traxas BL system in a TXT?

Yes they need more power and with all that power comes the issue of twisting thing in two lol like drive shafts ,axles ,diffs and wheel hub stub shafts. :) but so worth it !!!!!!!

Just running faster brushed motors I have done my share of driveshaft snapping. I am currently down waiting for a the tamiya diecast bag, need to rebuild my front and rear diffs...anybody have extra diff. parts laying around?

I will check into the EZRUN system. New to brushless, but it seems to be the way to go! This TXT is just my backyard basher, but like to have some speed.

Joe - did you get any test runs in this weekend w/ your 3600?

thanks guys
Mike

and will typically require more power, too.
:wnk
Not really. Depending on the motor KV and can size as well as figuring in pinion tooth count you may still only run 2s or 7 volts. Or a 3s lipo. Not always 2 batts for 14 volts. I run only 1 7.4V battery in my thunderkings with 1/8th setups.

EZRun systems are nice, great for the price and so far have proved durable for me.

As a useful gauge I slung a 2250kV XERun system in my truck, it's relatively stock with the stock transmission and Revo shafts. I run a 3S LiPo (30C) on it and put a 14T pinion on the motor. It's what I'd probably say was moderately fast, enough to have some fun with, it's not ballistic but I've got the Timing and Punch turned way down to save the gearboxes, which limits the speed from what it should be. It still wheelies easily even at that though.

For less than the cost of a Mamba 1/8th system I got the XERun system, which includes ESC, motor and USB/PC programmer, and a HPI 3S LiPo in a hardcase. Oh and I had to buy a Novak 5mm shaft 32DP pinion too. The 19T pinion the XERun kit is too big for anything but mega speed. I didn't test it to see if it physically fitted.

Like you, mine is really just a backyard basher. I use it to rip up and down the paddock next to the house.

Only caveat with using a XERun 2250kV is you need a 5-7mm 540 size (i.e. same diameter or slightly smaller than the stock cans) motor spacer to back it off from the motor plate otherwise you can't get one of the screws in - I killed a gearbox casing and scratched up one side of the motor finding that out, so it's good advice! :)

Yeh, I just mentioned the Punch and Timing were both set low for clarity (and confused everyone lol ;)). It makes it slower to accelerate (Punch) and slower top speed (Timing).

Like I said above though, the low Punch setting is less hard on the gearboxes and also it wheelies pretty darn well even at the lowest setting.

I think the biggest thing is the ratings of BL motors that confuse people.

They here a big number and think that means speed and torque and want it. However it's not like that in the brushless world.

Then the real kicker is when you change the can length, just 5mm makes a difference, never mnd when you go to 60, 65 or 70mm can lengths. The torque the longer can provides can be incredible. More torque means you can put a big pinion and get the speed even at lower voltages.

The longer can has a longer rotor and winding, this means more area where the electric field and rotor interact turning the rotor shaft. Think of it as this, how much snow a 18'' shovel can push and how much snow is pushed by a 8 foot plow blade.

Well I put my order in today for a 1700 series motor from castle can't wait the torque will be insane its a 1600kv motor and a full inch longer than my current motor :)

what's the minimum voltage on that? Is it a 3s minumum or can it run even lower on 2s?

That's a nice motor, more than I can (want to) afford on a single motor though

hey guys I just ran my missile txt and its using a traxxas vxl with a 7 cell IB pack and a 13 tooth gear. The power was pretty good. Its got a ton of torque and the top speed wasnt to bad. My tires came unglued towards the end of the run so the fun didnt last long :bang

well just put on a diff. set of tires and used my traxxas 6 cell pack. Once again the truck ran great. Not quite as powerful as it was with the 7 cell pack but the torque was still great and the top speed didnt drop to much. I think il just leave it this way casue Im pretty happy with its performance and its lighter to with the 6 cell vs the 7 cell.

put a lipo in there (with some good connectors if you don't already have them) and watch the truck wake up even more. :wnk

...Joe - did you get any test runs in this weekend w/ your 3600?
i did, and it worked pretty well. ill try to get vids up tonite after work.
(edit: its actually a 3300... oops)

i ran with a 2s lipo and a 14t pinion.
it isnt quite as fast as the 5800 with an 11t pinion, but my temps are about 1/2.
i didnt notice a huge differance in torque either and i think my highest temp was like 124*.
i still need to swap in my mamba max and change my connectors to the castle 4mm bullets.
one of these days i wanna get a 3s lipo.

... I run a 3S LiPo (30C)
... HPI 3S LiPo in a hardcase.
where did you find that? i havent had any luck finding a hardcase 3s.
:bang

you might be able to go to a 15t pinion then Joe

Hardcase 3s are not common, but they are out there. I have 2 soft case 3s. I wanted to get hardcase but at the time the only ones I found were more than twice the price. HPI is comming out with one, and venom and duratrax are supposed to have them. Polyquest does and another brand I forget the name
