Traxas BL system in a TXT?

Was thinking, would the Brushless ESC and Motor from a Traxxas BL Rustler be enough to power the TXT for bashing? Or would I be better using a Mamaba MAx 4600 system?

JoeWorks has one in his custom "outlaw" txt, but hasnt updated with a test run yet.
im running a 5800 in mine now, and im thinking of trying a 3600-ish this weekend.
it should give similar performance to a vxl motor, but mine is a 5mm armature.
if it doesnt work out, im gonna stick in a castle 4600.

the traxxas vxl motor has more torque than any of the castle 1/10th motors, and it runs cooler in same setups. So it will do better than one temp and torque wise, though how you gear it can effect things too.

The traxxas motor is 3500kv, so you will need to run probably 2 more pinion teeth than the castle. Just be sure to check temps, you really don't want to overheat it.

Can you get away with running only 1 motor in a TXT ? Don't you have to use 2 ?
no, you can generally use just 1 motor in a txt if you have a nice brushless esc motor combo.

A long can motor like 1/8th scale stuff uses is really the better choice for bashers, it'll run cooler. A novak HV motor and a mamba pro esc, or a hobbywing 80a esc and a long can motor are nice in big tire heavy monster trucks. They'll run cool, and can run from 2s to 4s lipo.

Would the traxxas vxl motor make good power with a 6 cell battery? Or would it need more casue of how heavy the txt is

nimh battery, only if it's a sidexside pack if it's a stick pack you'll have lame power and cogging

Really should be a 30c lipo running a single motor on a big tire heavy truck with brushless

My neighbor is running a vxl system in his txt with 13t pinon and its dang fast and wheelys on command he runs a 7cell side pack and has been for bout 4 months but he had to upgrade drive shafts to punisher shafts due to excess torque of bls but stock tranny is doin great hope that helps ! :)

really?
in a stock txt; full weight and all?
the vxl esc has no setting features and nimh has no real "punch".
im surprised, even with a 7 cell, that it would do much in a truck that size.

How much does a TXT weigh ? My GP w/B&H Clod tires & 7 cell pack, weighs 9.5 lbs. It does wheelies with ease and is quite fast. So to hear of a similar experience with a TXT, sounds plausible to me.

You might want to recheck that weight Brian. My Hell Camino TXT with dual motors/emaxx trans weighs in at 9.3lbs and that's with 6-cell NiMH battery. The carbon fiber TTR Ripper Pro Clods weigh in at 7.75lbs with battery and my GP is lighter that those(never did weigh it).

Mine weighs 11lbs but I'm running a mamba monster and have a lot if aluminum :) and his truck does really good I was impressed with it and you could always just slap a emaxx tranny in it even with the stock mabachi motors it not bad but that's just my opinion

I will post pics of the truck soon as I can it says I'm not allowed to right now for some reason lol but its a monster when it comes to raw brute power !!!! :)

So for bashing would I be better of going w/ a 1/8 Mamba set up, not really wanting to spend $300 on it (too many other projects going on) which is why the traxxas system caught my eye.

you can go with the ezrun system and spend a lot less money, kershaw designs too

Both ezrun and kershaw will run you under 150 bucks new

the 1/8 would probably be better, but the 1/10 will work.

ive got a couple of test vids in my build thread.
i plan to get some more this weekend with the 3600 motor.
that could give you an idea of what to expect.

for racing the 1/10th is fine, you don't have to worry so much about heat because it's short runs. Bashing, or running a full pack or multiple packs 1 after another you can run a 1/8th setup and it will stay cool.

So if you run your rig like a basher, and longer periods a 1/8th system would be a better choice, and last longer. A 1/10th will work, but you will need to monitor it for excess heat and wear.

and will typically require more power, too.
