traction or lack thereof?

Well since its was super nice out today i decided to take my highlift out to the local ball diamond to make some test pulls. So i dropped in a fresh pack hooked up my "sled" and hammered down and boy did the truck take off.... straight down!:doh Naturally i thought i had to much weight in the sled so i removed some and tried again with the same results. now i should explain my "sled" is actually an old laundry basket that i load with bottles of water.(im working on a real sled but this works for now) Now in the house i can pull 3 full gallon jugs. outside i cant even pull a 2 liter. Now obviously i know that carpet has way more bite that dirt but is it normally that big of a jump? maybe theres too much friction on the basket? is my dirt wrong?(its a wet sand dirt mixture thats kinda loose). i have tlt tires and my truck tips the scales at just under 9lbs. Any thoughts anbody? im going to try the stock highlift tires tomorrow(as per diesel rules) but im thinkin it will be even worse.
and sorry for the long post and fell free to flame away if the answer is really obvious i can take it.

Carpet has mega traction and ball diamonds usually have somewhat soft sandy soil. I bet some packed dirt with some moisture in it would work better.

Does your "sled" have the chain attached at the ground? How long is the chain? That makes a big difference on how it pulls.

I weight tranfer sled lets you get some wheels speed up before it really starts to pull down. Try getting the basket rolling then set the bottles in it.

no the chain isnt attached at the ground the misses wont let me drill holes in her laundry basket. the chain is fairly short though the basket is maybe 3inches from the truck. I know thats part of my problem but i figured id be able to move more than i did. im gonna try a different place tomorrow hopefully with better results
