TOP SPEED STAMPEDE back in business

well after a long break from this truck i have decided to get back into the game with it. the VXL3m has proved very well but after 5-7 speed runs it goes into thermal protection mode.
instead of finding just the VXL3s i decided that since my hobbywing brushless systems are working great in my other cars that i would go all out and do everything it takes to get this stampede over 80mph.

i just ordered a new soldering iron to replace the aging matco iron i have since it can barely heat up any longer. once i get that in i will post some more photos of some battery options that will be tried.

my big big question is i am unsure of which esc will be the best for this type of truck. most of the guys on here have put the hobby wing ezrun stuff through the paces and know more than i do about them. i am looking for the most powerful esc that will be able to handle the 5700kv motor in the truck now with ability to upgrade further.
also it will need to be able to handle a minimum of a 2s up to maybe a 4s(if i have the ******* to try it).
im thinking an 80amp esc may be the ticket but dont know if i should look at going higher?

the one im talking about:
http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezescfor1scr.html

they go all the way up to 150amp??? i know it says its for an 1/8 scale car or truck but im going to need as much room for improvement as possible as i may need to get a custom motor plate made for an 1/8 scale motor and up the battery voltage to get the truck up there.

kev- forget putting in a 1/8th motor into the stampede...

kent mentioned before in my speed-clod project that the 1/8th motors are good for torque, which isnt needed in my speed clod, nor your stampede...

when you do the math, the 540 sized motors have more rpm...

2650kv @ 6s lipo= (2650*22.2) = 58830rpm
5700kv @ 3s lipo= (5700*11.1) = 63270rpm

and this is even with 6s on the 2650...castle recommends only 4s for use with that motor...if you attempt 4s on the 5700, it'll theoretically net you 84360rpm!

i know you want hobbywing stuff, but mamba max pro can handle up to 6s, and i've seen them power the big 1/8th motors as well...

Mamba Max Pro,5700kv motor or more,3s-or more !!Making power is easy, the hard part is gonna be keeping your nose down without adding alot of weight !

just rig it so the batteries are up front to help keep the nose down...:)

or a custom wheely-bar that doesnt let the front lift off the ground too much...

ive got the suspension setup pretty good right now, keeping the nose down isnt a problem its finding a large enough area to run on. using stiffer springs and softer shock oil has netted a pretty compliant setup even on full punch.

if weights are to be used to keep the front down i will let everyone know.

i couldnt find the amp limit of the mamba max, which im guessing is really high as it can accept a 6s. the 150amp ezrun system has a burst current of over 950amps which is more than anything i could ever put into it....but at the same time is also the same amount of money as the mamba max pro.

well ran into another problem. strapped in an old 9 cell NIMH battery and low and behold found out the slicks dont like 3/4 and above throttle. going to start looking into jaco foams.

i ended up buying the ezrun 120amp esc.

also trying to get my cop buddy to use his radar gun for testing purposes. i think my bushnell is off by a few MPH as it believe it read really high on my last pass....so if he is game when the new ESC comes in ill get it on film.

you really need to go lipo for the amount of steady voltage it will provide. Your never going to get a good run when the battery starts to diminish once you start rolling.

Also, the weight alone should be good enough reason to swap over. A 3s lipo will be less than half the weight of your 9 cell pack. And we all know lighter = faster

i do have the lipo's but for the past runs of just testing the water i was sticking to NIMH to get the weight transfer down. the truck "sits" like a typical street car with the NIMH but when i swap to the lipo it will pull the front end too quick. im trying to soften it with the NIMH setup to test out how the LIPO will react.

ill grab some photos with the venom 2s and 3s i have that i am running....both are 5000mah, so not too big, but def lighter thant the 9 cell nimh.
