What are your thoughts on the new top gear series. From what I have seen and read things don't look good. They might pull it off. But I say get Jay Leno, Carol Shelby, and John Hennessey or Steve Saleen. Now that would be a car show.

Even throw in some of Barry White SMC's. We gotta have the good ol muscle cars from back in the day make an appearance. I really hope its good. I religiously watch TOP GEAR on BBC every week. So I hope its good.

But I do agree, the commercials are not looking so hot for the show.

I'm excited to see how it turns out but I have my doubts it'll ever come close to being as good as the original. I've always felt that Tanner Foust was really generic and unlikeable. Also I just don't believe he has the balls to be opinionated like the hosts of the original show. When he hosted Supercars Exposed it was cool to see all those awesome cars but Tanner rarely ever gave an honest opinion of the cars. Instead he would just give generic "this car is perfect" corporate bs and from the commercials I've seen of the new show it's more of the same. Honestly I really don't know much about the other two hosts.

As for the hosts I'd like to see, Jay Leno would be awesome, he has a ton of personality and really knows his cars. I think Adam Corolla would be a good host as well.

Jay Leno turned the position down because he knew it wouldn't work like the British show. In Britain, Top Gear is paid for by public funding, much like PBS here in America. Because of this, they can be honest and don't have to worry about keeping advertisers (the stuff that they are reviewing) happy. When you have people paying money to have their product featured on the show, everyone suddenly gets a wonderful review.

Between that and the piss-poor cast, I think that the BBC America ratings for Top Gear will be higher than the History Channel ratings for Top Gear America.

Well at least I know who the car people are here. Just a little bit ago I saw a commercial for TGA (top gear America) and it was just terrible. I don't think there was a car in it that had not been reviewed by the real Top Gear. I think this show should change its name before the brit's start blaming us for ruining another one of their products. First their cars becuase of the stupid regulations some soccer mom thinks are right. And now by taking the name of a highly respected car show and dragging it through a mud pit full of junk cars. I say change the name to Almost First Gear.

we haven't seen the finished ''product'' yet so I'll hold off saying if I like it or not. I don't believe you can change-remake the show and be the same, the original cast/hosts have great chemistry and cannot be duplicated until possibly cloning is available. Still, laws, and rules alongside sponsorship will also force a difference on the US version.

Best hope though is that it's just a good entertaining show, almost anything is better than another 1/2 hour sitcom in my book.

Your right. We will just have to wait and see. Still, as Americans we need to get any complaints out of the way so we can pay attention to the show. I think it will be difficult to pull off. Especially when most of the worlds super cars have been reviewed and most of the big car questions answered. Maybe they will give us something like the ACR X whooping up on the ZR1 or something.

I think we should forget about the British version before watching the American version. If we compare the two, obviously the original is going to win. But if we head into the series as its just any other show starting out, maybe it will be superb in our eyes....

I did a little more research on TGA. Apparently it has been canceled once before until the history channel bought the rights. And Wikipedia barely has any info on the hosts. How these people got choose I don't know. I will have to see if I can find a car list for any of them. If they have not owned an Alfa then they are just actors.

I know the Rutledge guy has been with Nascar for some time. The other two I have not a clue.

That right there is key. It's suppose to be of similar format to the original so well see how it goes. I will be watching it weekly and hope it does well but do have doubts :-(

The show shouldn't be to bad as long as chevy does not become the main supporter. Their cars are so bland looking I would probably go blind from seeing the full lineup.
