well if you don't care about low end control and any sort of lap time and spinning tire all over the place is your thing go traxxas :p

and if you get a slash, stuff some 3mm threaded rod or an old clod steering link insde the traxxas drive shafts to prevent colapse
that sounds about right for my driving style!

and good tip for the axles.

for some reason, (skinny tire spinning then catching traction??) the slash w/ BL power twists the shafts very easy, preventing collapse helped tons

Im leaning toward the 2wd for now and ive heard from a couple people that between 10.5-13.5t is wat to look for...i like the tekin systems even tho they are pricey, their sensored 10.5t motor with the Rs pro esc looks good...i guess i could always rum the Tekin motor on the castle ESC too..i know the VXL has alot of torque and work well too..

Im curious about pinion gearing too...

Did you pull the trigger on anything yet?

I'm still looking.
I really think I'm leaning toward the 2wd slash.
It'll just be a basher for me.

Anyone know if wk tires will fit?

I'm a little late to the party sorry.

I have a sc10 4x4 kit that i built about a year ago now, and ive never raced it, I dont have any nearby off road tracks thus the lack of motivation to drive somewhere else for just 1 truck. I have the Castle sct combo with a 15t pinion(as of tonight haha) and it flys, its a blast to drive considering how different it is compared to a clod or wheely king. The clicker is really cool, I use it when im inside in a tight area, truck turns on a dime. I jump it off a lil wall, up a small thing onto outdoor carpet now steps and back up steps a lot(typing this out makes me seem harsh on my truck haha) and it handles it, When ever i do race it its fun and easy to drive. Complaints is that it was mainly only kit at the time, and with me never owing any a-arm truck i was lost 90% of the time in less it was putting tires on haha. Sc10 4x4 is a lil hard to work on, if anything where to get hurt in the front or rear gearcases i'd just head home haha, have to take A LOT apart to even access the gear cases. But ive used the truck a lot and no problems with the belt at all if you dont set the belt up by factory standards, look and read around, use some of the pros setups as guidance on the associated site(thats what I did, heck there was only 1 setup then).

Last summer when I decided to get back into the hobby two of my first purchases were an Associated FT B4.1 and a FT SC10. I still haven't built the SC10 but I have always been an Associated guy and everything I read on the SC10 had me convinced it was the best SCT out there for 2wd. You can get the FT on eBay for pretty cheap. I got mine there for about $70 less than what I could find at online stores and that was NIB factory sealed. I don't have any plans today...maybe I should start building it...

Wow the slash 4x4 is really that bad? I love to wrench on my rc's, more so than driving so that isn't really a con for me. Is there anything that can bulletproof the 4x4 slash? I'm also thinking about getting one but the 2wd slash doesn't seem as appealing because, well, its only 2wd.

there are some things that can be addresed
Techno makes cvd's and axles for it, pretty much a must have option.
As for the center driveshaft, and gear jamming don't run in sand or gravel and there is a under body cover that can help a bunch too

Handling wise it seems the 4x4 slash would out perform the 2wd...
It's got a lower cog and it's 4wd, but I don't know if I can accept it's downfalls.
I did find out that the diffs are from the revo, so that's a plus.
Does it actually handle that much better?

I'm really leaning towards whatever is cheapest, but the 4wd is just a little more.
I'll be bashing mainly in grass, dirt and pavement.
Also, I really wanna throw some 2.2s on and most won't fit the 4wd.

I've had a Traxxas slash brushless, HPI Blitz Brushless, Team Associated SC10 Brushless...

I ran the same brushless setup in the trucks. And I really liked the SC10/Blitz/Slash in that order. I felt out of the box, The SC10 was the most race ready truck. Handled good jumped great but one thing I would advise doing is helping the shocks. First drive I was doing alot of rolling over, and driving on 2 wheels around sharp turns because the shocks seemed to soft. Once I turned and the weight shifted it'd roll over easily. Thicker oil and stiffer springs fixed that and made the truck very fun and very competitive. I was able to beat my buddy who races ***-T's around his own track.

The HPI Blitz was awesome and a very very close second to the SC10... I took this truck off some huge jumps... I would go 15-20 ft in the air and land and itd drive away perfect. I did it probably 35 times in the cold winter weather and I only broke one knuckle the whole time. The tires were descent stock and overall I think the trucks worth every dollar. It also handled great on the track.

Traxxas Slash was more to me like a, Basher SCT... I launched the truck probably 40-50 times off a drop off with a jump on top of it and each time it'd land and drive away.. Was probably a 20-25 foot drop... Anything I threw at the truck the only problem I'd have is when I landed the motor would slide away from the spur gear. I didnt do much track wise with this one but it was definately the toughest for hard bashing. Although the Blitz and SC10 are much quieter running, I had alot of fun launching this Slash off some nice size ramps.

@Joe.. Im in the process now of either getting an SC10 or a Traxxas Slash...Ill probably pick it up in the next few days...I have a VXL Brushless system for either truck I pick up...both are RTR so Ill be able to bash around right away...ill take it too the new track we have here...

@MonsterTrucker.. I like the Blitz too but from wat everyone tells me and everything I have seen the SC10 is the best one...when its dialed in the handling looks great...alot of guys here race the slash

Can you fit a VXL system in the brushed version of the SC10...I would like to save $100 and put my VXL in there

the 2wd is a giant pede/rustler, all the bugs worked out
4wd debris locks up the gears and center driveshaft. Axles bend like butter in a microwave. Heavy and high COG compared to other 4x4 SC's
I have a 4x4 slash and run the thing more then i have to fix it. Only thing I have broke is a shock shaft, I ran my during intermission of monster truck shows an outside all the time jumping it 40 ft at a time sometimes and never messed up anything.
