The MFU at RCX

Can someone explain how this works? I read on Tamiya's page that it needed a 4 channel radio.
Is that 4 channels in addition to what it takes to run the truck?

I don't understand it all, but this is what I understand.

You can put into a couple of modes.

And the MFU "reads" from the ESC what you are doing and it reacts. If you go forward then it makes the noise that you are going forward. If you are stopped then it just idles. If you go backwards then it turns on the reverse lights and makes the noise as such.

Thats basicly what I understand, but I sure there is more to it.

You need a four channel stick non-PCM radio. The two sticks give you the standard forward reverse right and left control but by moving the trims in specific ways, yields more effects. Take a look at this link http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=53957

I'm starting to understand. I just realized that the ESC is built into the unit.

From what I can see, you plug your 4-channel reciever outputs into the MFU, then the MFU does the throttle, shifting and steering of the truck as well as make sounds and lights.

Does that sound right?
