Tamiya Ford F-150 TA02

With all the hype over the Slash, Slayer, TTR CORR, SCORE truck, etc... I wonder why Tamiya hasn't sold more F-150 4x4's. Seems that it has the scale appeal (moreso than the Slash) with 4-wheel drive opposed to 2, and has the more scale 1.9" wheels... which now have a bunch of tire options from RC4WD and such...

I've never seen one of these trucks in person, but the online images look good... and if the drivetrain is anything like that from my old Wild Dagger, it should hold up well.

Maybe just because it's too low to the ground, small?

I remember the other old Tamiya Corr trucks from the early 90's back when i had a Bush Devil and Grasshopper II.
Could be Tamiya's plastic is generally not as flexable as HPI or Traxxas ect so more fragile a lot of the time. Usually fine because you need to build Tamiya's and buy running gear for them the price is a little more expensive than a RTR like a Slash.

I'd probably go the Tamiya route just to be different personally

couple things
it's small and narrow
it smokes spur gears because of the flexible plastic motor mount
it's not really cheap when you consider what it needs, bearings 30, better motor, esc radio servo

Did I mention it's small:tong and needs pretty smooth terrain?

its more less a car with bigger tires. maybe longer suspension arms would have done it well.

but agree. its a truck body on a car chassis

I've had a handful of the Tamiya F-150/S-10 trucks, probably 8 or 9 over the years. If you have a friend to beat around with that has the exact same thing, and you are on a very specific type of terrain they can be fun. Short of that they are a waste of money compared to the slash. In fact you can't even remotely compare them to a slash if you had them side by side.

If you want a fun kit to build and nice to display, build the Tamiya. If you want a balls to the wall performance runner that looks good to boot, get a Slash.

I was just discussing with WillG how we got our slash's for $165 shipped (Tower club members). Compare that to the Tamiya. You need the kit, bearings, radio gear, esc, paint, which would be considerably higher for a lesser truck IMHO. The kit may come with the free esc now and I think they do. You can't trust tower's tech info. But still the Slash is where it's at I think.

heres an old pic, but should give a point of referance on size....

from the left to right:
thats a TA-01/02 "CORR" truck with an s-10 body
then a jps clod, a pede and a hummer.
the hummer is a tad longer and wider than the ta.
that pede is an inch longer than stock and sitting on maxx wheels.

the Slash is basically a pede with a flat tub style chassis.
