Tamiya driver painting tips

So I started the build on the Hotshot today, I will post some pics of the progress later tonight. I am at the painting part for the driver. I painted the suit of the driver white. But there is just something not very good about it. I want to show the shadows in the folds of the suit. How should I go about doing this? I think some type of "wash" should do it, but what color? And how much water should I use?

latex/water based light grey then wipe it with a damp cloth is what I'd try.

I sort of got the look after a few more coats of white, since the styrene underneath is black too. But now the hard part that I am holding off are the eyes, they are super tiny, even harder to paint than the grasshopper driver.:bang
