Super Clod to be discontinued???

Im guessing it comes back as an XB model or they put some lexan body on it and an esc then re-release. They sell way too many of them still to even think about getting rid of the Clod...

On a side note, now I need to save some money to get a Super Clod (I like the blue), a Twin Force (before they discontinue that again) and a Dagger/Detonator/Dual Hunter/whatever.... Id like to have some stock here in case they do disappear lol.

Oh man...

You guys can blame me for this. I was thinking about buying a Clod to sit next to my TXT-1. That must have brought this on. Haha. One of the reasons I wanted a clod is because they've been around so long. I assumed that would be the case for a long time.

If Tamiya is discontinuing the clod becuase of the MSC, they should be discontining the TXT along with it right? I'm sure they have other kits with MSCs too.

My guess is they'll do a 25th anniversary re-release with ESC, new hard body and a special color scheme. I hope so anyway. I'm a drive shaft guy, like Kent, but the TXT wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the clod.

ClodMonster you do understand that even with all that info you have that the Clodbuster is indeed discontinued and no longer in production as I & we all type in this thread, right? The info you have is of retailers and or distributors who can still obtain kits from a stock status of who/where they bring them in from. Once stock status of the kits are out there is no more to come as it is discontinued.

Tamiya USA's customer support replied back that yes the Super Clod has been discontinued, and that the axle sets are currently available. They didn't answer my question about if the parts support will continue so I replied back with that same question and hopefully they will respond.

Here's what I got:

Dear Tamiya Customer,

Spare parts will be available for some time. As for a replacement for the Super Clodbuster? We have no information at this time, but we can?t see Tamiya Inc. ending one of the most popular RC vehicles Tamiya has ever produced.

I could be totally wrong but something tells me there will be more than just a re-badge coming out. That satement doesn't tell you anything but the way it's stated, it sounds like they were witholding info. Could be interesting.

I gotta believe there's something going on here. I don't think Tamiya could be so cold as to just drop the truck which is the cornerstone of an entire sector(albeit a now small one) or RCs. So I am truely hoping they have something in the works that will replace it and that they'll announce it SOON! The alternative is that Tamiya is turning it's back on some of it's most loyal supporters without even acknowlegding what they have done to make that platform a success.

As far as replacement parts I'm sure we'll be alright for awhile but if the Clodbuster is indeed gone that'll kill any growth for RC monster truck racing the way it is. Most RC monster truck racing has rules built around Clods and not having a true Clod kit in production makes it that much harder to bring in new members(it's hard enough as it is). Most members here are knowledgeable and experienced with Clods so we don't need the kit. But remember most of us were introduced to solid axle monsters with a Clod kit, not by piecing together a race truck from scratch.

If this is indeed the end of the Clod (and TXT) kit, or even if it isn't, I think all the race organizations should really take the time to look over their overall structure and rules and think about making changes. Jetboat bought up the idea of a Wheely King type class and was met with some not so enthusiactic responses. That single motor brushed/2.2(?) tire class is something RCMTC-HI is going to try next season as well as dropping the Clod/TXT axle requirement we currently have. Mix in the fact that we already race shafties alongside Clods and I think that opens up the possiblities for newcomers. All this is of course my opinion but I do think we should start openly discussing some of these issues.

possibly a new version based on the chassis but with possibly a different body and ESC or no speed control at all. Or a RTR version? they seem to be all the rage. Traxxas is mopping that up well and other manufactures do take notice.

I heard from a very unreliable source that since bigfoot is going chevy, clod is going ford. Introducing the new F-350 Clod.

I heard that they were going to rerelease it with a toyota body and bigfoot decals in a special edition that includes an NWO Hulk Hogan and Minnesota Vikings Brett Favre action figure.

I dont think it will ever truly die. i think the clodbuster is the king of all monsters . I could sell all the others , but the Clod is my first love. I will keep the 10 kits I have waiting safely till they may be needed :shk:laugh
