Stopped at local hobby shop. Like a kid in a candy store

My son and I were out getting some groceries and stopped at a hobby shop on the way home. That was fun. I had to pull him away from the puzzles and games and he had to pull me away from the rc stuff. They had a row of cars and trucks on a shelf which was really nice. Gave me a chance to look them over real good and maybe help me make my decision next week. Then I get home and one of my friends emails me about his sons rc truck collecting dust in the basement. Ask him what it is and he says its a truck like Traxxas or something like that. Not sure what it is but hes giving it to me for nothing so the price is right.

Maybe you'll luck out and it'll be a Stampede! Great little truck for bashing and just messing around with. Lots of hopups and mods you can do also. I still love racing mine at the local track, it's just plain fun :).

Cant beat free!!
Man I love free !!! ... non of my RC stuff has been free (sadly) ... but I got my first Clod for $20 (which is almost as good as free) ... but I still call that my most expensive one ... since it's led to another and another and another ... lol

Have fun and let us know whatcha get.

Was the only GREAT deal I've ever gotten ... found it on Craig's for $5 and ended up giving her $20 cause I didn't want to completely steal it. I've missed a couple others ... like a box full of old Tamiya stuff and a complete Hi-Roller for $25 ... a friend of mine actually beat me to that one ... and yet I still call him my friend ... oh well ... lol. Was a day late on couple USA-1s about month ago ... you can find em if you keep looking, garage sales are great if you have the time and patience to go to 100s of em and ya can snag a bargain on Craig's every now and again ... just keep looking ... and good luck.

Hehe, it's nice to hear that I'm not the only guy around here that doesn't get any of these great deals. :D I'm glad that at least a fellow RCMTer is coming out ahead though. Please let us know what the surprise is.

Good news is that I didnt have to use up all my cash on my truck and I found a local guy thats selling a Rustler cheap. Not exactly what you guys suggested or what I was originaly wanting but its in great shape and is what I can afford. Im meeting him in the afternoon today to check it out and buy it if its all he says it is. I didnt get exact specifics but he said its got an upgraded motor, esc, wheels/tires, radio, 2 batteries and quick charger for $100.

Not a bad deal if everything works... $55 cheaper than a new XL-5 version and about $185 cheaper than the VXL... and that's RTR without batteries and charger.
A set of wheels (4, mounted) run about $65-$70

I'm not sure about the rest not knowing specifics.

I have a Rustler VXL and I really really enjoy it. It's fast, low and turns pretty well even on pavement.
I seem to be like the only one praising the Rustler, but this is a Truck-oriented forum and everyone talks about their Stampedes.
Which I've heard is basically a Rustler with more ground clearance (and a truck body).
I want one, but I'm not dying to have one and it can wait.

I blew a shock cap and lost a diaphragm after jumping it and not landing that great.
I refilled both rear shocks with 40wt (I believe) and the cap that blew off just screwed back on and didn't seem to receive any damage.
I've yet to get a repair kit so I haven't driven it lately.
The stock shocks do pretty good, but I've been thinking about upgrading to alloy materials.
Along with the stock tires/wheels, I have a set of Dirt Hawgs and Anacondas, all mounted on the black/chrome wheels.
I've only run it once with a pair of Anacondas on the rear, at the time I only had one pair and don't really have much dirt for the Dirt Hawgs and don't want to wear them out.

Well I bought the Rustler. Not a bad little truck really. I need to change the tires for sure. The thing spins out every time you give it full throttle on the drive way or deck. It did better in grass but not much. I took pics but Kodak booted me off their pic host site for not buying stuff from them. :tong Oh well. Nothing to look at anyways just an average stock appearing Rustler.

You can loosen the slipper clutch so it won't spin the tires so much.
Or just be easier on the throttle.

I have some Dirt Hawgs but I haven't run them yet as the compound is a little soft and will wear out fast(er) on pavement. Which is why I got the Anaconda's.
I don't have much dirt to drive on and find myself in my (dead end) street most of the time.

Most of the time mine will be in the dirt. I have an area in my backyard thats mostly weeds and bare spots thatll be converted to a track soon. Gonna butch the area with the mower tomorrow and start laying it out.
