I decided I miss my stock Clod. Oh the years of reliable fun it provided me. So I have began to re-assemble it with some goodies. I want to run 8 shocks and dual servos. Whats a nice aftermarket shock to run in a stock configuration? I have been eying the HR internal spring style or possibly some factory Tamiya up grades.Any advice??

I'm running the E-Maxx gray shocks on my near-stock Clod. They're all over Ebay cheap and they work very well. Made a huge difference over the stock ones. You dont really need 8 of them, but I put them on anyway for looks, just didnt look right with only 1 shock per wheel.

I want to stick with 8 shocks for this truck. It has to have the stock look going on. I want to axle mount the servos so I can lose the linkage and the bellcrank that runs above the axle and gain some more travel.Either by cutting down the bumps in the factory shocks or finding some aftermarket shocks with more travel. The stock ones are 90 or 100mm.

So I've been at this truck for the past week in my spare time and here's where we are

Ever since I saw the Bullhead I HAD to find some chrome trailing arms for my Clod. It took me almost 15 years but I got some! 4 pairs! I rebuilt it's gearboxes with fresh Bearings and a TTR Ball Diff in the rear.

I ended up with enough stock, chrome, rear height body mounts. With them all the way around the body has a nice rake to it.I cleaned up my original pogo sticks but I cut the bumpstops back for a little extra travel now that the stock steering is gone off the tops of the axles.

I mounted the shocks angled in (towards the center of the truck) I cut the bumpstops so they evenly bottom out;but with the inboard shocks snubbing ever so slightly first, to take some load away from the outer shock mount on the trailing arm(of which I have broken a few)

Also notice I switched to some brand new SuperClod lower shock eyes I had laying around. They are tighter than my original red ones.

I decided to bolt up some Hot Racing Knuckles I had on here. They fit nice and firmly and are good for taking up the slack in my worn castor blocks. I'm not a fan of the inserts they sent along, however. There seems to be a lot of un-supported kingpin bolt with this setup, and I'm concerned with the knuckle twisting the axle apart, but we'll see how it goes.

updated paint

While I wanted to maintain the patina of the truck as much as I could, I felt like my old spikey paint needed something more. I picked up some masks and used the parts between the actual masks for a 'negative' effect.

Here are some of the old paint

I'll touch up the trim and maybe outline the blue to hide my less than perfect lines.

I used a silver blue and faded it out. I think It worked well.
