Stealth Re-Visited

Been a long time since I have done any building on any of my trucks, but I have been buying up parts here and there. Now that all of the house "RENO" is mostly done, I can get back to the fun stuff again. This is as far as I had gotten on the knock of Stealth Chassis (that is again now available), before getting put away.

All of my chassis's have been built so that any one of the bodies can be interchanged, and to no availl I can not find the something I like. Think more that it is the paint on the chassis to be honest.

At this point a chassis tear down and fresh paint will start the process. Also instead of making the shell over the chassis that the original truck has, I have been doing some searching on an upper cage. I've seen some trucks with plate chassis's and cage tops, and thought that this is the way to go.

So after a couple quick sketches, I have a few good ideas. I bought a package of pipe cleaners to make a mock up of the final cage (what ever that may be), and already have the 3/16 brake line to start with. I can only hope this turns out well, I will post pics and updates as I go :willy .

Aw, forget about the brake line. Keep the cage made from pipe cleaners and use that! :D

Really save on the re-builds, less metal and completely re-bendable. Let alone the time in welding the cage great idea :willy :willy :willy :tmb .

Well I tried my first design, so far not too bad. I did realize two things. Being impatient is not a good thing, and pipe cleaners as a substitute can be a huge "PIA"......
Any ways here are a few mock up pics.

I realize that black pipe cleaners were not the best choice, but I can only hope that the real cage will turn out alot better :reye :reye :reye :reye .

Hmmm...I don't know about your comments. I think that the fuzzy cage look is cool! :D

Oooooh, why are you even messing with the cage when you have that ultra cool blue, green, and purple thing sitting back there? Get rid of the cage and mount that thing on your truck instead! :D

The wife put a stop to that along time ago :bang :bang :bang . I also realized another thing about pipe cleaners. Never drink too many brown pops and try to get something to look staright. Guess I just start bending the brake line and see how that goes..........

Scrapped the pipe cleaners and grabbed some break line. Got busy bending up the cage last night, and started soldering today.

Here's a few pics.

Hope you like it better than the pipe cleaners. There is still alot to do, but a good start today.

Well I got a few more things done, and realized how close to a full on tuber I really was. So I am scratching the Stealth knock off, and finishing it with a full cage.

I got the side link mounts cut out, just need to braze them on. Still figuring out which way to mount the shocks. Should be able to get most of that done this weekend.

I suggets alot of patience and practice.

I got the link mounts and a few more braces added. The brazing isn't pretty, but I'm getting it powder coated so that should hide a few of the flaws.

Stripped the donor chassis and messed around with a couple sets of links. Think I finally got it right.

17.25" WB and 3.5" GC

Still need to mount the shocks, actually still alot of things to do.

Cool.

Nice tube work. Silly question, do you use standard tin/lead solder to braise everything together or does the steel brake line require a different material?

Depending on where you live, you can buy Safety Silv 56 with Stay Silv flux. If your north of the boarder like me, there is a company called Soudotec that offers a 45T Brazing Silver and Flux kit sold by the Troy oz.

Now can you make that body again and for how much. I want to make a dune buggy with that chassis. By the way. That looks great.
