Sled lead weights

I have an Eliminator sled and am looking for some info on the lead weights. Wondering what configuration to use (1, 2, 5, 10lb, etc. blocks). Also if anyone knows of a good source to get the lead ingots from or knows of any for sale at a reasonable price. I've looked around but there are so many different types/sizes. Thanks.

Just use steel

Why dont you just go to you local metal dealer and have them cut you some 3/4 , 1/2 and 1/4 inch plates believe our were cut so 2 peices will fit in the elem . box and just stack them... works great and you dont have to worry about the lead.. i believe they weigh 9-5 and 4 lbs each...

hope that helps..lot of places are getting gangsta about the lead .. restricting its use..

the tire places have tire lead weights but you have to melt it into boxes some guys get flat tin cans or some reusable forms.... wood works too

First off lead weighs .41 lbs per cubic inch. So its pretty easy to calculate sizes. We have 5 - 1lb & 5 - 5lb bricks & 4 - 25lb plates. That will get you all numerical combinations up to 130lbs. You wont need that much if you not running 25# gas trucks. Figure around 6 lbs of lead per pound of vehicle weight.

Mark,

I thought your bs was pretty good.

Marko,

This really depends on what you want to put into it as far as your time and effort goes. The cost of lead is what it is. Mark has the exact formula to do it if you getting lead you need to melt. If you are getting lead in sheets or bars just cut them to fit the box. Once you see what one weighs make smaller or larger ones to suit your needs. Again Mark is right on about how much. If you are only pulling small to mid sized pullers you can probably get away with 60# or so.

Where are you located? The NR/CTPA has clubs and members all over the states and Canada and we may be able to help get you in touch with someone in your area. If you are in driving distance of Northwestern PA come over to the Super Pull February 25th and 26th. We will do what we can to help you get pulling.

'Darren, I'm in Tonawanda NY, just outside Buffalo. I've spoken to Joe several times during the past months. I have Larry's Bar Tire Sportsman and am putting together a Digger also. I've been into Rc for about 35yrs and me and my sons run fast electric boats and on and off-road cars currently.
We plan to make some of the pulls this year but just not sure which ones yet. We camp alot and always bring the rc toys with us. Whenever we break out the cars we always get a couple other people coming over to run with us. Figured having the sled in the camper might get some of the guys we meet interested.

Hey man. You are right in our neck of the woods. We are only about 2 hours or so from Joe's. You should definitely come down to the Super Pull. This is one of the three largest events of the year. We are anticipating over 250 entries this year. So come on down and you can see exactly what happens at the big events. If you have any questions feel free to call me at 814-337-5481 or e-mail me at [email protected].

That weekend of the Super Pull we are busy all day saturday. Would it be worth coming for the day sunday? The sportsman is ready to pull and the Digger just needs rear wheels and the body painted. We would like to try and come just to watch and learn. Joe has been a great help to us so far. I'll probably give you a call with some other questions soon. What's a good time to call?

We will be running almost all day Sunday. We are usually finished up around 2:00 with the pulling, but the monster trucks will still be running and have freestyle left. The third round and pulloff will be Sunday so there would still be a shot to run if you would like. Even if you don't run you can at least get to see what is being run and how the guys are setting their pullers up. You can call anytime. If we are not home just leave a message and I will call you back.
