All are brushless
SC8 I converted, mamba max w/ 2048kv running 2, 2s 4500 lipos
SC10 I just picked up a RTR body for it, mamba max VXL motor
Redcat Racing I bought on e-pay to check out, worth it for under 200 includes brushless system and a shotgun 2000 mah nimh. Has a 3300kv motor

That's a nice comparison Will. Now the real question, how well does that $200 truck perform? Does it outrun a stock SC10? I just ran my 10 for the first time Tuesday and I have some diff shimming to do. But, everybody in my section at work wants a truck now. We have a warehouse big enough for some serious fun, but if we could all get those cheap trucks it would level the playing field. :tong

it's been raining here for 4 days, and again today more rain. ugh

Seems to really fly, just a quick pavement blast because everything is wet.

So far the only thing I HAD to do is put some oil in the shocks, they had next to nothing in them.

the redcat impresses me.
The brushless setup really makes this sucker fly. It's a rocket.

You can't program it like a mamba :-( but so far it is otherwise flawless. Lipo cutoff is auto detect, and works. NIMH run down to nothing. So that's good.

Ground clearence isn't the greatest however it's 4wd so doesn't get hung up to easy.

Jumping,
flies nice straight and level no matter how bad my driving :laugh

It takes metric tamiya sedan type pinions if you want to change to slash or other tires.

Rugged
Slammed a curb wide open sideways in a slide chipped chrome off a front wheel, wheel otherwise ok. Popped a upper ball link, pliers it popped back on and kept driiving. Had to be going 25mph easy and that's it, nothing permanent.

After reading about your experiences with the Vortex I decided to try one out and it should get here next week sometime. I haven't heard much either way but have read someone mentioning some down sides and wanted your opinion on these points. It was said that it overheats in stock form, which I assume is due to the huge pinion(23T) and that a 2s lipo made the ESC shutdown. Do you think most of this problem comes from the stock pinion? Sounds like you're having excellent luck with yours and you are even running larger than stock tires. I only plan on more scale appearing tires, doubt they'll be much bigger though.

I swapped tires, and pinion to 18 whe running slash tires.

So with stock tires and 23 tooth pinion, only change was to a futaba radio the thing took a huge beating on Sunday and nothing is broken. I took it to a pig roast and let everyone and anyone drive.

Kids, teen agers, inebriated adults. I was laughing, I think the adults liked it the best.

We had 3 2000mah nicad packs, 1 3000 nimh pack and recharged a few packs a couple times. I lost count of how many battery swaps, but at least 8 packs had gone through before I lost count.

Never needed any tweaking, no thermals either while running in a grass yard and street jumping curbs, walls and rock gardens.

Great to hear. Sounds like the other person I read about might have had a faulty product. Now I'm excited to get this thing.:willy

I read a guy on scale4x4 bought one that was new and missing rear hingpins, since getting that fixed hhe has had good luck.

They use metric pinions like tamiya sedans, so if you want to change ratios it's not hard.

I'm not trying to say these are GREAT r/c's, but for the money they are pretty decent, and a decent deal. I just know that I'm happy with what I spent.
