Should I turn it into a crawler?

I have my find of the century clod axles that i have had for years now that I want to do something with. I built a multi-purpose chassis out of aluminum stock. It will work for crawling or racing based on link positions. My question is, is it worth it to convert to crawling?

I only need lathe motors and some tires. I can fab rear steer in my "shop" w/o much effort. I have some stuff to crawl around, but not too much.

My main quesiton is what rims/tires do peeps use?

Thanks,
Jeremy

For a super class crawler like the Clod typically falls into, most people are using Proline Moab XL tires with suitable wheels (Proline and XTM are two I can think of off-hand).

Other choices would be the Losi Rock Claw wheels/tires from the LST.

For motors, 55T lathe motors are pretty popular with 9T pinions to slow everything down for crawling.

Good luck!

Yep you'd need 23mm adapters. There are TONS of companies that make them. Integy, Junfac, RC4WD, TTR, RCGuy I think, and about 10 different privateers that make them and sell them out of their garage or make them at work in their spare time.

Wow. I got my 1st set for $15 years ago. Should have held onto them. So...
I need 23mm hex adapters, some skinny 40 series rims and some moab tires.

I have my SR esc, so lathe motors shouldn't be a big deal. Other than that I'm set. I think....

thanks,

Yeah going 40s on a Clod is expensive after you add up the cost of the wheels, tires, and adapters.

RC4WD is coming out with a few new Clod tires in the near future. They have confirmed Clod size Mud Slingers and Rock Crushers.

I've got a set of Proline Moabs mounted on Outbacks and a set of Losi Claws mounted on RPM Spyders. Both tires are popular on Crawlers. You can run Narrow or 40 series, just depends on what you want to try. There are mixed opinions for each size. As for motors, I run Integy 55 lathe with 8th pinions.

Keep us posted with you build!

Here is the finished chassis, links, and shock mounts all done by hand. I need to "fine grind" the chassis to work out some scracthes. I will then polish her up. It has 2 battery slots that come in from the side.

I have hyper 7 rear shocks on it now, but I am thinking to go smaller. I want to lower it some but I don't want the shocks too close to the axles.

I call it Castillo. Dunno why, just like the name.

Got an old 80 chevy body from poline I am gonna paint good ole black for it.

I will post pics at image shack's whim.
