Well I got a WK and am doing the WB extension like you. What did you do for the steering link that goes from the horn to the axle? Did you make a new one that is longer?

I know John just changed the end of the link to a longer Dubro one at the axle side. Some of us have found longer links or found ways to extend them.

Ok, this is more of a general question tied to my plan to do this suspension modification to my already extensive WK project (read: obsession). I have a 4WS mod, with the servos on the axles. This already limits, to an extent, the suspension travel. Are there thinner profile servos available that will allow me maintain the 4WS and utilize this lower profile set up? Or is there an alternate to placing the steering servos on the top of the axle that will allow me to maintain the 4WS and also have enough travel? Thanks!

I don't know of any "slim" type servos that would have the same mounting pattern of a standard sized servo (that doesn't mean they aren't out there though)...you might be able to find a mini servo with specs strong enough to handle the job, but I'd be nervous that it's going to take a real beating slamming up against the battery box on rough landings.

Something like this might work if you can mount it somehow...

You could probably integrate the rear steer into the stock steering's linkages, and eliminate the need for a servo on the axle. I haven't really looked into that myself...I run lockouts on the rear axle, and run shaved front knuckles to get the desired amount of increased steering travel I'm looking for.

One other question I had for you is...

Would you mind going into a bit of extra detail on how you extended the upper four link A-Arm to fit the slightly longer wheelbase, perhaps with some photos and detail on where to find the extra parts? I would greatly appreciate it.

I just extended mine and used a screw taht is about 1 inch longer and this tubing cut to size, about .75" or so.

He used some spacers on his screw.

I had some long 4-40 screws and some misc shock spacers & plastic washers for my extension. Nothing fancy by any means, but it's been very effective.

I thought I had some pics of the upper axle mount, but I guess I don't...I'll try to remember to take a few tonight.

Probably something I'll have to do..I don't know what I am going to do with those upper ones yet.

Great racing as always. That wreck at the end of the relay race was brutal. I hope the Grave Digger is ok lol.

So where's the guy been with the Captain's Curse truck and wasn't there another guy running a Grave Digger way back in one of the first videos you posted? You guys would have a pretty big field of trucks if everyone from the various videos showed up.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks! Yep, Digger is still in one piece...these things are a challenge to break! :)

The driver of Captains Curse just had a baby, so he's had to miss the last couple of races. He should be there for Round 4 though. He was the one that ran Digger in the earlier videos, but that was just a spare body he had laying around.

So I called Traxxas customer service last week about the Grave Digger body I bought at my LHS. As you can see in the picture below, the decals were put on at about a 15-20 degree angle, and looked terrible...

Traxxas was kind enough to mail out a set of replacement decals for the body, and the showed up today. Here's the before and after...
The same thing happened on my GD body. I never thought to call Traxxas! Oh well, that body is too beat up and covered with duct tape, new decals won't matter now.

Now THIS is one of the most scale Monster trucks I've seen in a long time!... some trucks, the wheels and tires are just way too big (As much as I LOVE TXT's WK Grave Digger.. chassis and all...), some of them the stance isn't right... this one is really scale... the only thing that is "off" is that the GD body isn't as 'rounded' as the real thing or the 1/10 scale bodies.. and the stance is wider than the "real" thing..

I see you used two pairs of fronts for the truck... are the rears a different offset? would the rears stick out more or less than the fronts you have mounted?

Thanks

I know this question was aimed at Johnnyshore, but here's one I actually know the answer to. The front Traxxas MJ wheels have less backspacing than the rear wheels. Therefore, the front wheels will give the truck a wider stance. The wider stance makes the truck a little more stable in the turns. Check out DiggerXX's thread for a comparison. He used the Traxxas rear wheels and the track width is slightly more narrow.

I used the front wheels on mine, and then widened the wheels to balloon out the tires a little more to make them look wider. I haven't been able to do much to it lately, because I've been working on custom WK bodies for my sons.

Thanks for the info? i think I would use the Traxxas rear wheels because it would make the truck narrower like the real thing but I would widen the wheels just like you did in order to make the tires balloon out because it looks more scale... When the wheels stick out too far the truck starts looking like a truggy, and that is not scale.... Lol
