Hi all,

This coming Saturday night (3/16/13) will be the first ever MMRC World Finals! We'll have our usual racing events, but this time, we're doing something special...

FREESTYLE!!

Not only are we adding freestyle to the Finals event, but we're putting the freestyle results in YOUR hands! Become a fan of MMRC on Facebook, and judge the freestyle runs starting on Sunday morning!

This should be the biggest group of Wheely Kings ever assembled for an MMRC event, so the action should be intense!!

Thanks,

John

Thanks johnny and mmrc club

Just want to say thanks to Johnny and the MMRC guys for lettin my run my clod with them for a little bit. If you guys stayed uprite i really didnt stand much of a chance on those tight turns. I owe you guys a new corner tin though. Better that than a clod size hole in the wall i guess. Wish i could of stayed for the freestyle. Think a W/K is in my future.
Thanks, Eric

Hey Eric,

Glad you could make it out to run with us! That Clod runs pretty darn well!

Don't worry about the turkey pan though...we've got probably 20 of them in the closet, and they're only around $1 a piece, so it's all good.

The WK's are a ton of fun though, and it'd be great if you picked one up to run with us! I'm thinking the next race will be in 3 weeks, probably around the 6th of April.

Catch ya later,

John

Yep. Paul checked there HPI dist. and they had 2 BH's left so i figured i would save some cash over the new waterproof 2.4 truck and not have to worry about getting a body just yet. Since my Slash is just sitin on the shelf I put the esc and servo in it but kept the stock motor. Plan on E-baying the tires and the stock electronics. Put receiver in a balloon so i am waterproof and if that Titan 12 turn fits in there it should make a decent basher. Also picked up the crawler mounts today. Trying to get the steering straitened out. Is the STRC steering system worth geting?

Very cool!

I've really liked the stock steering setup myself...keeps extra weight off the axle, and looks more scale IMO. It's tricky to get the alignment squared up after extending the wheelbase, but a longer rod end on the long steering link fixes that pretty nicely.

We're racing again on the 6th, and since it's not a points night, it's going to be an "open motor/esc" night, so throw in the 12turn, and let'er buck!!

Think i have the steering rite. Used a t-maxx tie rod and a cut long rpm ball cup with a cut screw to extend that littlest one on the inside of the stock steering link. Will the Traxxas XL5 esc be legal to use or should i keep the stock one?

You can run any esc.

Here's a breakdown of the rules we follow for our points series WK racing...

MMRC Spec Wheely King Guidelines

Chassis/Suspension

This class is based on the HPI 12th Scale 4wd Wheely King.

Aftermarket chassis and suspension hop-up parts are allowed as long as they are similar in size/function to stock part. No axle wideners or wheelbases longer than 11.5" allowed.

Electronics

Only the stock 27 turn Saturn motor, or equivalent closed end bell 27 turn motor (Axial, Tamiya, etc) are allowed.

Any brushed Fwd/Rev speed control can be used.

Any radio system and servo can be used.

Bodies

1:1 Replica bodies that appropriately fit the Wheely King chassis only.

Tires/Wheels

Preferred - Traxxas Monster Jam tires & wheels (Part #TRA3665), or stock Wheely King tires & wheels.

Acceptable - 2.2 tires with Chevron tread pattern (Proline Mashers, Imex Pullers, etc) can also be used.

Keeping the racing close and fun is the spirit of this class, and is the basis for the above mentioned rules. Changes to these rules can be made at any time to better provide good, fun, inexpensive Monster Truck racing!! At this time, the Wheely King is the only class offered within MMRC.

If you have any specific questions, please post them on the MMRC Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/MNMonstersofRC)

Nice, so you guys like to keep it pretty much a stock race. Question for ya, could you take a photo of your steering rod and what rod end you used? I cannot get mine right for nothin.

I am new to this board, but I really like the way you have set up your Wheely King johnnyshore. I just have a few questions on it while I try to get my shopping list together. First are this the mounts you used for the shocks http://www.ebay.com/itm/310294942787?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Also do you have a length for the traxxas driveshafts? I do not want to cut them to short. I am also curious on what setup you used to extend the steering for the truck.

I can get this for Johnny. Yep those are the rite ones. I cant remember how long the drive shafts were, thought it was somewhere between 10 and 15 mm longer but cant be sure. Also to extend the steering i saw somebody used a part tree off the crawler king #HPI85637. Its about 8 bucks for the tree and it has two really long rod ends (you only need one) on it that you end up shortening. I did it differently but will go to this style soon. Sucks you have to buy the whole tree for those parts.

You gotta be careful on shortening those rod ends, they aren't hollow all the way through. I wasted one shortening it too much.

I'll try to remember to snap a quick pic next time I tinker with the truck. I'll be running both this Saturday at the next MMRC event, so I'll try to take one then.

I did manage to find time to throw in a new 3000KV Tacon motor and Hobbywing esc into the Digger earlier this week...she's got some scoot now! Well, it's still slow compared to my new Mad Force VE, but for it's size, she scoots!

Should be a handfull. Im thinking of throwin a 13x2 in mine for sat eve but have been told its probly too much for a XL-5 esc.
