Scale Bounty Hunter King Build

Hey all,

Just sharing my Bounty Hunter budget build.

Truck was on my doorstep waiting for me on Wednesday night...here it is fresh out of the box...

Spent about 2 hours working on it that night, rotating the axle mounts to get a little longer wheelbase, and installed my 2.4 Flysky radio...here's what it looked like on Wednesday night...

Stopped at the hobby shop on Thursday, and picked up some Maxx axles, and got back to work. Painted the bead lock rings, made some custom sponsor plates from .030 lexan and a Traxxas decal sheet, and trimmed the wheel wells slightly to match the longer wheel base.

Here's where it stands as of today...

So far, here's what I've spent on the truck to get it as it sits today...

Bounty Hunter 4x4 WK on Tower....$183 shipped after $25 off coupon code and free shipping.

Traxxas Monster Jam Stampede Front tires (2 pairs)...$33 shipped on eBay.

.030 Lexan sheet...$2.99

Traxxas sponsor decal sheet...$2.99

Traxxas 4951X Maxx axle set...$6.99

Comes out to roughly $229. I'll probably sell off the stock wheels/tires, as I don't think they're as scale looking as the Traxxas set, so that'll offset a bit of the cost too, but I'm VERY happy with the results!

Let me know if anyone has any questions!

Thanks,

John

Awesome build!!! Love the looks of the truck - pretty simple mods that come together for a great package.

How did you paint the beadlocks? I picture myself doing this and getting paint all over the tires. Also, how did you make the beadlock "screw heads" silver?

That looks great. Could you maybe take some pics of the suspension setup I would like to see how you rotated the mounts I wouldn't mind doing this to my sons WK.

Thanks for all the kind words guys...I'm really happy with how it all turned out so far.

I used a blue "extra permanent" sharpie marker on the wheels to make the beadlocks blue. The beadlock "bolts" look silver, but only because the flash hit them at the right ange.

Here's a couple pics of the axle mounts...

I was hoping there was enough room to fit both the shock ends and the link ends into the mount, but the holes are too close together, so I had to run the shocks on the outside of the mount. Should hold up just fine though.

Looks awesome very very scale looking... I love the stance and the MJ wheels and tires make it look way better. Those MJ bodies would look go on this truck too. Can u take a pic of the front?

They'll be fine. As a bonus by moving the shock out like that you'll help cut the body roll a little bit.

I know he said how he did it but I wanted to say I had a buddy I grew up with and when we were younger even he did some jaw dropping detail in the airplane model cockpits on the control panel buttons and switch's where they all looked scale and real.

he used a wodden tooth pic to paint it all and would break the end to the needed drop of paint size to put on each one.

he had them were it looked like it was done under a magnified glass or something.

I would think something like that would be good for the wheel screw beings he did similiar on stuff way smaller then that and had amazing results.

no way I would even try pulling off what he could do for the small detail but his method worked and was amazing too that it was all done using wooden tooth pics.

Another question I think I know the answer to but did you cut the maxx shafts down some. I have some hpi shafts here but they are a tad too long so the suspension don't work.

Man those little c clips can fly only lost one so far lol.

Easy mod glad you posted it I've been wanting to do something with his wk but didn't want to stretch to Crawler king wheelbase. I got it done except trimming the shafts that will wait till tomorrow I'm excited to test it out. He is 4 so he don't yet appreciate Modding stuff.

Thanks agian .

Ended up moving the shock mount down to the same hole the lower suspension links attach to...

Feels more solid this way, and gives the truck an even lower stance...should be good for the upcoming Monster Jam style race series at the local track.

I had thought about doing the same with the shock of course it was after getting the c clips back on so I figure I will run it like this first. Did you do anything to angle the axles so the shafts line up better? I added a small spacer to the upper link mount on the axle side and would have added more if I had 2 longer screws.
