id reccomend a tlt crawler they are cheaper and can fit in alot more places. The more experienced crawler guys can give more details but to start in crawling u should prolly go 2.2 then extreme later if u like it. Then again scale builds are awsome but not as good on the rocks.

Welcome, deer_assasin! These guys know their stuff so you came to the right place. Maybe you could check out some of the different threads and pics, and find something that looks and sounds like a good fit for what you want to do. I'm a newbie to crawling type trucks, but not new to the hobby also. I modified a Wheelie King pretty cheaply and easily (1st custom truck for me). It's not a "competition level" crawler/trail runner, but it works pretty well for what I want it to do. Check out the other member's projects, ask questions, look around and enjoy!

I 2nd the Wheelie King 4x4 as the cheapest way to get into crawling RTR. Swap the battery to the front and get your crawl on. You can always upgrade later as you improve or see fit.

Welcome to the gang :tmb . As for a starter truck ckeck out the Axial AX10, or the WK. There are aftermarket hop-ups out for both trucks to up-grade as you go. Do some research though to see which will work better, and keep us posted as you go.
