Mine was a Varicom Big Grizzly. That was the bigest pile you could ever own lol. It broke more than it ran lol. Me and my dad converted it to a twin motored truck with duel transmissions. That finally made it last a little longer. Took the stress off the transmission that kept stripping the gears.

Tamiya Grasshopper in like 1984! I ordered from either Sheldons Hobbies or Stormer. Radio came from the same place and was a aristo craft radio. Battery came cod from Tower Hobbies and it was a hump pack with an overnight wall charger.....wow things have changed. I still have some pics of that car. I traded it for a basket case rc-10.

Back when I had to send a money order through the mail.....

Then wait for what seemed like forever for it to get here!!
I hear you bro! My parents would write a personal check for me, and then we mailed that in for the Lunchbox. Holy wait! :(

bought my first kit in 1995 with my dad, its my TA02 that i still own today. took me almost a month to build. first week after i installed bearings, sport tuned motor, carbon shock towers, prop shaft and a real ESC. Had the tamiya celica gt4 body painted in black. body is long gone and i have upgraded everything. only stock parts left are the front and rear gearbox halves.

pics of how it sits as of a few months ago

My first RC car was a Tamiya Lunch Box back in '87 followed by a Clod, and then a King Tiger tank that was turned into a monster tank.

The Lunch Box was taken to numerous balloon rally's up and down the east coast, I used to run it during down time.

My first was the Marui Big Bear, I didnt eat my whole 7th grade year, saved up all my lunch money and chore money to get this truck. It looked good, but man oh man, performance it definitely lacked. I think I spent a small fortune in differential gears. I could not keep a set in it no matter how I drove. I will say I wish I still had it though, I find a few parts every once and awhile and it just brings back memories of crushing my buddies rc10 buggy.

yep...mine used to strip ALL the time too...was pretty frustrating to be playing for so little, then have to disassemble it to fix...gear diffs, ball diffs, we even tried to get the metal gear set, but the local hobby shop coudlnt get it...i kept mine, and sometime in high school, i decided to try to resurrect it and get parts for it...i was able to get a new gear set for it, and the newer plastics worked great, since the newer set didnt strip...

i still have mine, and glad i didnt get rid of it, but it's a bummer the tires are all dry-rotted and crumbling apart...

Never had an issue with mine til I jumped a snow bank and split the gearbox. Still have my Big Bear too....:-D Body is a little on the not so good side; and the front bumper was broke when i got it. Loved running that truck, it was my first truck....

I got my first BigBear in 1987 and years later I hacked the hood and bed and installed an aircraft radio in it so I could operate the hood and bed. It's sad that I no longer have it and I wish I still did. Then the ClodBuster was seen in a Magazine that I had and from then on I wanted it and luck was on my side when I received it for Christmas the following year. I'm very please with myself that I still have it and the fact that I restored it this year.

Summer of '88 I bought my first RC, Midnight Pumpkin, with my second pay check as a school custodian. It was the summer before my freshman year of high school. It was already built and I raced it that day in the novice class! That was what turned me on to RC monster trucks for real. Our novice class was a run what you brung class and with little to no experience, which really just meant no race wins at other local tracks. I ran over the course pipes and not to mention my fellow racers cars... Futaba fx-10's and a few RC10's and Kyosho Ultima's... Now that to me is still the most fun I have had with an RC truck!
