Reaper Sand Rail

Wasn't sure where to put this so here it is. I haven't been on here for a while (sadly) and have sold off a lot of RC stuff, I've had this chassis for a while and wanted to finish it for the dunes here. Anyway, it is still in the build process and am wondering your opinion - should the front be wider? I can do Protrac a-arms or rear Stampded/Rustler arms too for a bit more width but HONESTLY how does it look proportionally front-rear?

i think it looks great so far ... maybe a touch wider like Bill said but over all i think its going to be a cool rig :cool

Personally I like the way it is setup now but I like things being in proportion front to rear. But if you are looking for maximum stability front should be wider so it depends on what you are looking for and driving style. Really cool sandrail, always wanted a real one but there is nowhere to ride it where Will G & I live

Thanks for the input guys, I was personally leaning toward wider, especially for more stability. I may give it a run or two as is to see how it handles.

Anyone know of rod ends for m4 hardware but for 6-32 all thread rod?

Iam really digging this hardcore slash kit and the crazy suspension travel

And i think with that long travel front suspension i posted earlier it would be a awesome rig !

Little update and question. Ill be running it this weekend so I can report how it does. I want brushless (2s) and am thinking 3500kv but should I get more like 2200 for the sand? More torque and less strain? Also the tacon lower kv motors are usually in stock vs the others:(

Another question, I tried to put some stock WK wheels/tires on it for dirt/street and the stub axle is too small for the hole on the wheel. What do I need to do for that?

Stick with something 3K +. Lower kv motors are designed to be run on 3s or 4s. Stick with a little higher kv motor and run it on 2s.

You can always get a 4-pole motor or a long can or 550 sized motor to have plenty of torque while still being able to run on 2s with good speed. Unless that chassis adds 3 pounds over the weight of a stock Stampede/Rustler/Slash I wouldn't worry too much about it.

There are some really nice Tacon motors in the 3500kv to 4000kv range that would probably do the job without breaking a sweat or breaking the bank.

As for the wk wheels; they typically have a washer under the nut.
As long as the hex is tight, you can just nut them on, but a washer or flange nut would be better.

Thanks guys, ill look for a higher kv, just need it in stock! Ill be testing it with a stocker 27t and fully expect to burn it up but if I don't, even better.

Ill grab a flange nut and tighten it down too. Look for pics and a vid in a few days!

Update! Took the sand rail to California with me and ran it for the first time in the beach which was a blast. The motor is TOO hot though and it was full throttle to even get it to "fun" speeds and acceleration is sub-par. It's on 2s 5000 mah 30c with 19/83 gearing. What kv motor would be good for this setup? I want one on 2s that will have plenty of torque for wheelies if I want them yet good top speed too. Thanks!

Any chance of something more specific than "pig"? :D

The motor will be fine. A lot of guys run those in 4x4 SCT's which are not very slim. The bigger issue with the 3800 is if you get the combo with the SCT ESC the ESC might not be up to task. There have been more than a few guys on RC Short Course burning them up in 4x4's.

You might want to look at the combo I got from Funshobby for the MASC review truck.

That combo will have boost to spare. I'd choose between the 4400 and 3800 and call it a day.
