small update; motor swap and body.

stuck in a 3300kv motor with a 5mm shaft and 14t pinion.

and popped a lid on 'er

gotta represent!

and here are a few vids:

i still need to finalize battery position and build a tray.
i might try a bigger pinion and someday a 3s lipo.
otherwise, its basically "done" ... for now.

Looks exactly the same speed as mine on the XERun and 3S, so I guess you are running on 2S. Looks like a barrel of fun. Looking at how it handles I am REALY thinking of biting the bullet and flipping the tranny in mine it looks like it handles so much better!

the tranny flip is really a pretty easy mod.
you will need to drill two holes in the chassis for the lower trans mount.
everything else is just moving screws around.

as for performance, it definitely handles WAY better than before;
it can actually turn while driving and not tip over!
:willy

i also found that i like the battery in the rear. when i put it up front it was nose diving a lot.
maybe if i were racing i would put it up front to keep it planted,
but for bashing, i like it to still be kinda bouncy and able to lift the front end.

however, i did lose the ability to just ride wheelies for miles.

There is of course the small matter of where to put the shocks... you have to remove the cantilever shock mounts from the middle of the chassis IIRC?

Have you got a shot with the lid off so I can see where you mounted your shocks? Also they don't look like stockers, what length shocks did you use?

Do you plan on adding any type of skid plate on the bottom of it? I was kinda worried about stuff hitting the motor on full suspension compression.

The battery is in the front of mine and it'll wheely on request anyway! :)

Joe,
Next step, some IMEX clod tires to reduce the weight a little, that will help a lot with less unsprung weight.

Looked very good, speed was good, handling was great and it just has toi be much more fun setup like this.

If you want, I can loan you a 3s battery for a week or 2 for testing purposes.

Joe i think IMO its fast enough for bashing and when you get a 3s you'll fly !

MonsterBrit there pics in the beginning of the thread with the lid off the shocks mount inside the body mounts just like mine

Joe the longer can looks close to the drive shaft is it hit it ?

yeah, you're right, you would have to ditch the cants.
if i find a flat style skid i might get one, but im not to worried.
and as for wheelies, it will still usually pop 'em, just not ride them like it used to.
i used to run dual motors and 14.4 volts.

its a lot of fun now!
and thanks for the battery offer. ill let ya know.

im going outta town soon, so this is probably going on the shelf for a few weeks.

i think you are dead on about the speed.
as for the motor, this is a stock 540 size can.
i mispoke earlier stating it was an xl.

got some updated :pics

heres the servo mount i had mhesse cut for me:

mounted with some stock posts attached:

and with the servo and steering links:

also, i swapped motors to a 4600 with a 13t pinion, installed baja tires, and chopped the chassis a bit:

these changes definitely shaved a bit of weight from this pig.
waiting on the esc and then some decent weather to get some test runs in.
...more to come!

+1 on the chassis. I may be wrong but looking at the second and third images that the servo may hit the cross bracing suspension fully compreses. Or is my old eyes fooling me with the angle of the images. hehe

looks great Joe ! it does look like the servo will hit but thats an easy fix just move the crossbar back :tmb

thanks guys. the chassis color is just rustoleum hammered black.
:tmb
as for the servo; when fully compressed it will touch, but the shocks are quite stiff so i doubt it will be an issue.
but, im gonna try shortening the servo posts a little anyway. if i move the cross bar then the upper links hit it.
:bang
also, its not as bad as it looks in the picture.

i actually thought of that!
but i think i can come up with something.
besides, he seems pretty backed up right now.

this is just like Kent (HawnMT) said before... like putting a puzzle together with no picture!

+1

me I almost always just put the puzzle pieces in my head and make things out on how to put them together. The downside is it a problem when I am about to sleep i suddenly thought of something. :eyesbg

little update again!

made a battery tray (finally) and got 'er running with the new electronics.
:willy

pics are a little fuzzy because it was getting dark by the time i got home from work...

i gave it a shake down run; grass, pavement, gravel and rocks...
pretty much full throttle as much as possible to see if it would all be ok.
after the run i checked temps with the new setup...

temps look good, the truck handles well, and the speed is pretty close to what i was hoping.
i might even try bumping the pinon up to a 15t if i want a little more speed.
ill get some video soon, too.
