Question for Truck Drivers

I was just curious if anybody on here drives Semi ?

If so does anybody have any experience with a company called CRST ??
I might be going to work for them very shortly. But iam having second thoughts about they whole team driving thing..Plus they dont pay very well

I have been talking with a Job recruiter at the website http://www.bigtrucksbigbucks.com/
And basically he is telling me i live in the wrong state to try and get any good driving jobs..And alot of company's are bringing you in for orientation and then sending you home.

I have applied to Werner,TMC,and Swift..All the drivers i talk to and also the recruiter say stay away from Werner...And TMC brought it 53 people last month for orientation and only kept 8 and sent the rest home..Swift has layed off 2200 and taken 3000 trucks off the road..

I am fresh out of school so i know i need experience. But i want to get hooked up with a good company and would rather drive alone then with a partner..Cause i wanna do what i wanna do..Play the radio on my stations and as loud as i want..Stop and eat when i want to..So any advice would be greatly appreciated..Thanks

My advice for you. If you want experience, be more flexible. I would take on a partner that has experience on the open road any day if you are fresh out of school. You might just learn a few things that they for sure do not teach you in school. Live with it for a few months and then go about it on your own.

Just my 2 cents but in this day and age in Michigan with 540,000 unemployed workers in our state alone I would not be turning too much down. It is easier to get another better job when you are working, no matter what it is.

I know it is not what you wanted to hear but that is my take on it. When I drove Beer Truck they used to just toss us on a route and you had to find everything yourself with absolutely no help at all. You know how much better it is to have someone showing you around the first few times, showing you where to park and which routes to take with the big truck. Try just parking a 53ft trailer anywhere to stop and find out directions or if you make a wrong turn and guess what, you have to turn it around cause there isn't any outlet on the road you have taken.

Mayday mayday avoid CRST and Werner at all costs. We get CRST and Werner drivers all the time where I work, they are the most brainless people I've ever met.:bang:bang

One driver for a company called PRIME asked us if we were thinking about driving. I guess there are alot more benefits for PRIME than most others. All training is paid. Here their site. http://ww2.primeinc.com/index.html

I hope this helps.

Not overly concerned with how the drivers are..More interested in how they are treated by the company..Unless the company turned them into brainless idiots and thats what my future holds..LOL

I have done alot of research and talked to friends of mine who have been driving for numerous years and they all say stay away from CRST and Werner..

I will check out the Prime website...Thanks

The crst driver I've talked to, tell they don't get home enough and they aren't making the money they had been promised. With that said most otr carriers don't care about you, they just want the load delivered. You may want to look for a smaller company or an owner operator who has one to many trucks, that's how I got my start. Good luck on the job front

Out of all the drivers that come in to where I work, Prime drivers seem to be the most proud of what they do. They drive around some nice looking equipment. I wish you the best of luck, let me know if you ever get a load of beer going out of Budweiser in Baldwinsville NY.

I drive a CO2 Tanker for a living and for me personally I would find a job that allows you to come home everyday..Life on the road is not for everyone, especially if you are working as a team with someone else....You are stuck with that person whether you like him or not till the end of your trip which could take up to a week:ack

I know you live in Michigan, but NJ is always looking for drivers... If you are looking for a good driving job, I suggest you get all your endorsements..Such as Tanker, Hazmat And doubles and triples

Those additional endorsements allow you more flexibility along with alot more options

Oh, and if possible try to find a job that has "no Touch Freight" this measn that wherever the location you are delivering to, THEY have to unload it
And if you can find a company with a union, dont hesitate
and take it
