Potential new Ground Pounder Owner

I really appreciate everyone's input.
It sounds to me that you need to put as much $$$ into a Wheely King as you do a Ground Pounder? If that is the case then aren't they equally crummy?:-(

With the very limited selection of solid axle Monster trucks out there you are going to have to deal with short comings where ever you go, right?

I mean it seems that the "holy grail" is the Clodbuster but I don't even pretend to grasp what needs to be done to it.

I think as a new buyer I can learn from everyone's good/bad experiences with the GP and unlike many of you where I am aware of the issues that need addressed.
1) Axle housings break - Fix epoxy or Hesse Brace
2) Gear stripping - seems to have been addressed by v3 chassis or mod1 gears
3) Electronic / Radio issues - not a concern for me since I have a 2.4 radio ready and waiting and also a spare esc to use.
4) Shock link breakages - addressed by either CPE or Hesse brace

I think those are the major areas of concern?
I guess I am just not into the WK, the Kyosho MF VE is also up in the air for different reasons, so that leaves me with the Ground Pounder or a Super Clodbuster as choices right?

a clod all you use is axles and wheel/tires so technically it would be the worst :laugh No company makes a good monster truck replica that needs no upgrading of some sort.

Sounds like you know what to expect, now it comes down to making the choice. Anyone of them with patience and some work as well as a bit of money can turn them into reliable performers.

I just ordered my ground pounder and a few of the things needed to take care Of some of the issues it has. I like the looks and is a good platform to start with. If it was completely the way I wanted it then it would ruin it for me because modifying is one of the reasons i love this hobby. Anyone can buy something and take it out of the box and run. Also u have good people like on rcmt and Brett from CPE to help.

Plan on putting more motor in it. the stock one sucks. No low end. A silver can from a clod would be way better than the stock GP.

Or just change the pinion gear to one with less teeth. That gives you more torque and lowers the top speed. The truck comes stock with a 48P spur gear.

By the way Brett thank you for the support you give us. I have ordered a bunch of parts from you. Right now I'm building one of your old sniper clods with a Bounty Hunter body. It's brushless and I have the same CC sv2's for it that's in my GP.

Wow...I must have inspired some people with this thread...ha ha

I hope I can pull the trigger on something soon.

I have really tried to keep an open mind about this whole process and I always seem to over analyze things but enough about my hang ups heh.
I really feel that even with it's flaws the GP is probably best for me at this point....although thanks to the RCMT-HI retro race videos on YouTube I am tempted to get a Clodbuster....thanks a lot fellas, ha.

It was mentioned in another thread that it might be "better" to get the GP chassis of eBay and then fill in the rest with after market stuff.
If that was the route I went what would you fine gentlemen recommend for the following:
Wheels
Tires
Servos
Motor/esc combo
Body(will most 1/10 bodies fit?)

Wheels clod buster
tires clod buster
Servo the stock one's are holding up nice.(for me)
Motor/esc Castle Creations sv2 4600 (99.00$ can't beat it)
Body most 1/8 scale fits something 18-19 1/2 inches fits.(total length)

The clod tires fit, cut off the inner bead and bevel the lip. It makes it about an inch and a half wider than my clod. It's the perfect with. Nice and stable.

Just don't forget to put in the MOD1 spur gear and pinion gear; these are uber important if you are running a brushless motor.

CAPN PEGLEG

Always Complaining
Wheels -t-maxx,clods are awesome but will weaken axles cause they are heavy, unless you are going with the $75 axle braces.
Servo-hitec are good
MOTOR/ESC-GO BRUSHLESS,NO MORE THAN 4000KV 60A ESC
BODY-I LIKE THE STOCK AMSOIL BODY

Mod1 spur and a mod1 pinion
Clod wheels
RC4WD rumble tires
hitec 645mg or something over 120oz/in
castle sidewinder ESC and run a Traxxas motor OR castle 4600
Body, Proline Chevy either the 72 or the 80's (maxx/mgt size)

Must be a Chevy body if you want to win races. < True you read it on the internet

Brian34 has a pretty good idea of what will fit and what won't, he's tried as many combinations as anyone here I think. :laugh

Rumor has it if you use maxx or savage style wheel/tires your truck will be slow and burst into flames before ever crossing a finish line.

Actually, the rumor is that if you put a chevy body on your truck, it will suddenly become possessed by an evil spirit, and stop 2 feet before the finish line and immediately go full throttle into reverse. :tong
