I just bought a new laptop about 2 months ago with vista and don't really seem to have a problem other than the video card locking up when I was playing a movie on it and having it linked with a s-video and monster cable audio to the home stereo. But I was also burning a movie and downloading some stuff to.

The spec's on it are
hp pavilion entertainment pc
model: #dv9208nr
os: vista home premium
processor: amd turion 64 x2 mobile technology tl-50 1.60ghz
ram: 1 gig
hard drive: 120 gig
screen: 17" wide screen
video card: nvidia geforce go 6150
litescribe dvd burner
it is operating in 32 bit

It is a fun new toy and is more than enough machine for me and the wife

Sorry Mac guys, but not not everyone is a liberal arts major. ;) Just kidding, but seriously, I get tired of people cramming their fruity computers down other people's throats when they have no clue what software those other people need to run on their machines.
Wow! :rof

Is it just me or does Vista look a lot like Mac OS X Tiger? Window Expose was Apples magic. Plus Leopard will smash Vista come October 07. In addition to that SolidWorks can run on a Mac Book Pro with 2ghz, smooth as glass thanks to BootCamp! Also the word on the street is, solidworks is pretty slow through Vista.
So why hate, just take a step back and think why. Try to think when Steve Jobs came back to Apple, it is rumored that he took a visit to see Good ‘ol Bill.
Imagine their conversation, Steve tells Bill they are going to launch with Intel based macs. Bill gets excited because now he can use the beauty and power of a mac with his OS. Bill wants in more on the Apple market, Steve wants in more on the Windows market so they both come to an agreement. Steve says he’ll build the machines that will come with their OS BUT allow for a dual boot.
The catch is this: For a user to use a Mac they have to buy the machine, but to boot with Windows they need to buy the Windows OS. Now Steve is selling his OS and Machine to the Windows market and Bill is selling his OS making even more money.
So what can you get from a Apple? The answer is a, sleek machine that allows us to play amazing video games and 2 operating systems that look pretty much the same and function the same way. Giving us a near seemless transition between the two allowing for better usability the easy way.

Makes sense? Does to me.

Ah...I never used Vista for my applications...only XP.

Who's hating anything? These are just computers. :)

Solidworks is just one program too. I use many others as well.

Oh and yes...based on my 100% unscientific studies and observations in both college and grad school, liberal arts majors did prefer Macs compared to PCs/Windows computers.

back when macs had all them fancy colors on their things I always wanted one. I still kina do for the design of them. But after seeing whats out on the pc market from cases to keyboards I think next pc will be a custom. It'l most likely run WinXP with SP1, too. Heh

I prefere not to pay twice as much for a machine that is no more stable than the ones readily available from more than just 1 manufacturer with options to choose from. :tong
