Hey Gang,

Everytime I fire up my Laptop I get this message "Operating system not found" :bang Can anyone tell me what I need to do to stop this beside buy a new computer:willy

The Laptop is a Sony Vaio has a 60gig harddrive with 512mb of ram built in sound card and 64mb of video ram. This problem started about a week ago and has been getting worse at first it would come up with that message every other time now it's everytime I turn it on.

Any help would be great......Tom

is the Bios ok? If the bios is goofed and doesn't find the hard drive...

But I'm thinking it's the hard drive boot sector is goofed and it needs to be formatted and system reloaded. I'll bet that will take care of it. :)

Will may be right with the Bios...Is it up to date? is the Bios Battery Ok?
How long have you had the laptop? Your HD may be going as well....You can also try running a virus scan on the PC as well...Some have a tendency to mess with the OS and give you that message

Its a process of elimination really, Could be a few things that would cause this

have you tried "system restore"?
i always like to try that before formatting and starting over.

Thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention that the laptop is about 5 years old. I have never reflashed (hope thats the write word) the bios. I guess what I really need to do is get everything copied to CD before I lose pictures and other important files. Then I can start messing with it more and not worry about losing stuff:willy

Thanks for the help.....Tom
