Excaliber/Clod Buster

It is true, the Clod Buster was based on the Excaliber truck.

I'm a member on monstermayhem.org & in the original "Truck Related Official Old School Pic Thread" there was a long discussion on what truck was the inspiration for the Clod.

I saved the explanation that Dan had posted before the first "Truck Related Official Old School Pic Thread" was accidentally deleted.

A new "Truck Related Official Old School Pic Thread" is made & I also reposted it there.

Here is the link.

Then Dan replied to my post with the following, the words are his exact words, I saved it as a word document just to keep the info, hope you don't mind me using it.

Here is an interesting bit of information......

When talking with Mike Nickel this year, I brought my tamiya clodbuster "excaliber" to show him. He in turn brought his clod modeled after his truck the real excaliber. He told me for a fact that when he went to the ohio weak signals rc show back in the late 80's, he saw the Tamiya booth with the brand new clodbuster on display. He spoke with one of the guys running the booth at the time, and said wow, your truck looks just like my truck! The gentlemen who he was talking to said that they actually used excaliber as the model they built the clodbuster from. After talking for awhile, Mike was given a clodbuster kit as a gift from Tamiya. So, for all you clod and r/c junkies, Excaliber was the inspiration for the Clod.

Hope this is of any help.

You could really never get any great pictures from the dome. Bad lighting and dusty. Great pics though..... Brings back many memories of hitting all 3 shows in a year. The silverdome hosted an October, January, and April event. Good Stuff!

BATTLE OF THE GIANT MONSTER TRUCKS SHOW TOUR. I really miss these guys showing up at fairgrounds. Instead they all head to the Toronto SkyDome now. They need to do another Canadian show tour at fairgrounds. So everybody can interact with them much better.

Just to be breif I finally found two business cards today under the bottom dressor drawler that were sent to me many years ago from Alan Tura and Jack Willman.

The real funny true part is... the photo of Goliath was taken in Furgus Ontario Canada in 1987 and I was there to see this particular jump. I'm happy to say... that I snapped a photo with my own camera of this exact same jump way back then, but at a different million second time frame and camera angel. So there's your peice of history.

Hope you guys like these two photos on the business cards.

I miss having Mud Bogs and Pulling as part of the MT Shows. As compared to Quads or a freestyle mx demo. But seeing Robbie Kneival jump 13 Yugos in a hockey rink still ruled. My dad took me to shows in Kalamazoo, Michigan it would be either Bogs or Pulling and the Monster Truck would be like the half time show. I remember seeing the Michigan Ice Monster for sale for $30k in an Auto Trader type rag in the late 80s, to me it seemed as though it would have been a rational purchase.

I remember seeing The Taurus Bus crush in a video back when I was 6 or 7. I'm 30 now so your talking at least 25 years ago. Being from that era I agree with what everyone else is saying there's no school like the old school :D The new trucks are cool, but there's just that feeling that you can't quite put your finger on that you get growing up with, and being around the old school stuff compared to the new.

There was an electricity about it back then. I remember seeing Bigfoot at the Dome at a truck pull, and previously the Silverdome maybe had 20-25000 people for a truck/tractor pull. With Bigfoot there it was at least double...probably closer to 60,000. Bigfoot just fired up and the place went bananas...there was just so much excitement and electricity in the air. Once he hit the cars the place exploded with flashbulbs. There was a newness to it back then...people didn't know what to expect I guess. Now unless a truck flips over or breaks off a wheel it seems like no one bats an eye. With the modern trucks it's very difficult to duplicate the same excitement because the bar is set so high.

Awesome pics! Those trucks to me are Monster Trucks. The fabricated from the ground up fibreglass trucks like on Monster Jam are Monster Trucks but they are just not the same.

I have more photos of Big Bad&Bouncy and Taurus taken back in 1986 and I believe they are barried in the storage bin in the photo album in the closet. One of these days when I have enough time I'll try to get them out and post them here.

A short wile back i decided i was going to restore my old USA-1 Nitro crusher. So i looked up the USA-1 website http://www.usa-14x4.com/home.php i Thought how cool would it be to get ahold of them and see if when i got the body done if Mr Everett Jasmer would sign it if i mailed it to them. Much to my surprise when i called the phone number listed on the website did no other than Everett Jasmer answer the phone. I told him what i was doing and asked about him signing the body for me and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Well over an hour later we were still talking on the phone about everything from monster truck to drag racing to RC cars, and My 2 tours to Iraq. He mentioned that himself and Bob Chandler(Bigfoot creator) have been talking with a bunch of the other old school truck creators and they are working on doing an old school tour. He told me that the promoters are worried that with the professional wrestling(Monster Jam) type events that nobody would be interested in seeing the REAL monster trucks that paved the way and started it all. He said to help spread the word and talk to your local promoters and if people showed the interest there would be a OLD SCHOOL TOUR!!! I just couldn't believe how down to earth Mr Jasmer was to talk to. Before the end of the conversation he said if i was ever up in the area to come by the shop and he suggested we could take THE truck out.....i was speechless.lol

Wow that's just awesome:tmb I just updated the photos above for you all.

Enjoy!

BTW I always laugh out of this one (WWMJF) World Wrestling MonsterJam Federation

I also think it be neat to re-create a Big&Bad Bouncy Monster truck using a white stock ClodBuster with red chassis with the wheel nuts and hub painted red exactly in the picture with black roll bar and Hella lights.
