Hello all!

I'm not new to r/c vehicles I currently have is a XTM x-cellerator, tamiya wild willy2, HPI Blitz and my wife has a SC10. So anyways I just ordered a GP and waiting for it to come in. I have been lurking around here and decided to join. I have been reading up on this truck and it reminds me of the wheely king 4x4 (used to have 1 of those). Anyways, I have some ?s about the GP 1st is in stock form will the GP handle a Traxxas 12T motor with the XL5 speedo? Also how fast will it be? The monster truck events; what will they allow for motor and Battery configs? Also there is a member on here that has a highly modified GP with a Grave Digger body and I would like to know where he got the stock looking wheels? Anyways thank you for any replies.

The Grave Digger is Hawn MT,or Monster Factory !!,and It should handle a 12t,buy the cpe metal driveshafts that should help!!There's alot of info in these threads!!the stock looking wheels are tamiya clodbuster rims, they're not a direct swap but fairly easy to install!!

Thanks im2tall. I just ordered the mike hesse motor mount and trans brace setup. That should eliminate any flex in that area. Now I was cruising ebay to find the axle braces and didnt find any yet. Is Outlaw the only people that sell the braces? Also I read that CPE carrys stuff for this truck. And lastly how fast will this truck be on the 12t traxxas or should I go straight brushless? I dont need warp speed but enough to have fun and have plenty of torque.

2tall have you been to the racing events? There is a event coming up in oct.13th and 14th of 2012. The ground pounder faces off with the wheely king. Do these types of events restrict your vehicle to box stock or modified? As far as brushless I can go unsensored 3800 kv system or 13.5 novak sensored system. I also have 2 trinity CO27, and a 19t komodo I used to race; when I used to race 2wd stadium truck.

Okay nevermind on what the rules are, I found out. Now people with experience on the GP; what sensored or unsensored or brushed system will be the best to compete against the WK. What mods can be done to the GP that won't violate their rules and lay a whoopin on the WK? Please let me know. Once the truck gets here, I can start tinkering and get the truck ready!

Kinda hard to say, we don't know their rules.

So you ordered the Hesse braces, and the Hesse motor mount..good.
Do the Mod 1 steel pinion and spur gear.
Also the hardened steel differential gears.
All three from CPE.
The 4600kv system from Castle, makes the GP fly quite nicely.

Welcome to the solid axle truck world.

Its looking like your off to a good start with the parts you have ordered.

IMO overall the GP dose well in racing and bashing. HawnMT has raced his GP with some mods in the outlaw class here in Hawaii for over a year with minimal damage toward the end. He and iI beleive Tad? Tadd? that I know of was one of the first to own the first gen GPs and spent some time modifing and testing it. search for there threads here. very helpfull.

IMO speed is in the eye of the beholder. I say run your truck as it comes in and see how much faster you want to go.

As far as racing, its good to ask on the forums and get information, but I say go directly to the racing body and get the official rules for the class your planning of racing in prior to spending time and money on you truck only to show up to a race and be told you can't race it.

Good luck

Okay thanks so far guys! I ordered the mod1 spur, 11t pinion, hi clearence steering link, sway bars, and steel drive shafts. I will be ordering the axle braces here in a little bit. Heck, i'm still waiting for the truck to show up. C'mon UPS!!!! Anyways I have read on here that the electronics, and shocks in the GP are not so good. Okay so here are my ?s if you don't mind.....

Are the stock steering servos any good, or should they be replaced/trashed?

Will Traxxas shocks work on this truck? (which ones) Or do I have to choose a different shock. I really want tuneability.... springs, pistons..etc.

Are the hardend ring and pinions worth it, or will stock hold up under brushed and brushless conditions?

Any step by step instructions on how to do the clod rims on the gp? (The ones that look like the 1s on Hawn MTs grave digger.)

Competing indoors against the Wheely King 4x4 What motor/speedo combo would be good?

Lastly......Remove the rear steering servo and lock it out, or run with it in 4ws?

Again, Thankyou for all your replies! As soon and the truck and upgrade parts get here i'll start posting pics! Sorry 1 last ? what pixel size do I need to post on here, and how to post? Thanks!

The stock steering servos are reliable, but Im not sure if they can handle 6volts when I run a bec so I swapped out for digital metal gear servos!! It's not necessary to upgrade them ,they make good power!!

I never actually use 4wd ,but there's no reason to lock it out unless your remote doesn't have 3rd channel mixing!Just leave it !I use it for show when crab walking or doing donuts!! I can actually do donuts with 2 wheel steering on concrete!!It sounds like the tires are trying to rip off the rim!

I'm needing to know about shock replacements and is the hardend ring and pinion required for this truck to hold up? I'm looking to place some orders for a few more parts.:cool

I usually don't recommend the hardened ring & pinion until you break the stock ones (which are already metal). The stock ones will hold up to brushless power, but will eventually start to wear down and fail.

For shocks, I'd 1st remove the extra o-ring from the bottom of the shock body. That will soften the shock up. You can also enlarge the shock pistons for a softer acting shock. To swap, something like the HPI Nitro MT aluminum shocks work nice.

Okay, today I ordered the rear aluminum shocks for the hpi nitro mt, servo savers, and 15wt shock oil for this truck. Cant wait to put all this together! Truck should be here monday.......CPE parts should be here today, and the shocks and etc should be here about the middle of next week. I'm waiting on the axle braces......outlaw is out of stock. However i'm interested to know how the '97 bigfoot body fits this GP chassis? Also I would like to do the TXT or Clod tire and rim setup. BTW how is the stock 2.4 GHZ radio? Is it worth a crap, or immediatley replace? Like I said as soon as I get all of it here i'll start to post some pics. Again, any additional info is greatly appreciated. You all have been very helpful!

Swaybars would be helpful when you install softer springs to prevent roll/twist !! The stock radio works fine,it doesn't have the extreme long distance range like a high end controller but it does have decent range!!
