new to pulling

hey all, i live in michigan (metro detroit area) and im interested in pulling. i see the 2wd gas class and like it. i see its all clod wheel and tires for the rear. what kind of gear box is everyone running ?? or is it all custom made stuff?? as for the bodies , i see the truck class, what size are the bodies?? off the shelf or "puller " and can i buy the tractor bodies?

I live in South Lyon area and have been pulling for the last couple of years. I pull mainly in Ohio. STPA has pulls usually within about 3-4 hours. Next one is 12/10, you can search for schedule (search for 2011 STPA in NR/CTPA section below). There you could get an idea of classes and what is involved. Several of the pullers also build chassis and/or tractors.

Yeah most people run chain drive. But if you have time you could build a gear box.Tires and wheels are your preferance. Bodies are around 1/6th scale. Check out the rules on NRCTPA.ORG

Most have custom frames made with aluminum. You can buy tractor bodies, but I don't think that big. Some is custom but you can get parts from other trucks like steering servos ect.
