New Ride

Looking at getting a new truck after being out for quite some time. Have narrowed it down to a WK and a Stampede. It looks like parts are more avaliable for the Pede, but something just grabs me about the WK. Are there any problem areas that I need to worry about with the WK ? Looking at keeping it stock, maybe a crawler chassis for the added wheel base. The truck is going to be a basher for me and my 2 sons.

I love the look of solid axle trucks like the Wheely King, BUT the Pede is a great truck. Especially for kids to enjoy. Throw some RPM rear hub carriers and front spindle blocks on it and you've got a bulletproof excellent handling truck. It jumps great and you can even race them if you want to.

I've owned both - both are great trucks but are a lot different. The WK is fine if left stock, once you start adding power you need to upgrade a lot for it to stay in one piece. If stock you might need to shim the rear diff to keep it from stripping eventually but that is pretty much it. Performance is limited but they are very fun in stock form and the scale looks are awesome.

The Stampede is a great vehicle - it's about as close to maintenance free / care free RC as you can get. I have two and beat on them unmercifully and they keep coming back for more. You can put a lot of power to them as well without having to upgrade much if anything. The downside is you lose the scale looks with the indy suspension.

I don't think you can wrong either way!

I've got both and think they are great. They're both easily modded and a blast to drive........the trucks are fun in a different way.

Speed is not what I am looking for, raced pan car oval for many years. Do you reccomend the CK conversion for the longer wheel base ? The other thing I think would be nice is a 4 wheel steering option to cut a smaller turning radius. Maybe I just need to get myself a WK and find a Stampede for the boys.

It depends on what you want to ultimately do with the truck. Personally I'd recommend widening the track before lengthening he wheelbase. If you want to eliminate wheelies, you can always do the chassis flip mod and run the battery in the front.

It will be a basher. No intrest in crawling or racing. Might look at a little hotter motor eventually. Something around 15 turn. I really like the looks of the WK while the boys really want a Grave Digger, so I might just have to find them a used GD. My think on the CK conversion is it will open up a lot more possibilities for bodies.

If you run a 15 turn motor you will have trans gear issues sooner rather than later, and it will be necessary to shim the rear diff right away. Also a rear driveshaft upgrade will be necessary.
