New project came today! AX10

I scored a brand new AX10 deadbolt chassis on eBay and got some proline destroyers and clod wheels.

You guys can probably tell where this is going....

I've been curious about these types of builds. I'll be watching this one for sure.

I'm curious if anyone on the forum has an idea of what motor and esc to use for this guy. I've found a lot of info on what chassis components to use and everything but I have no idea what I'll use to make it go yet.

I've been using a Traxxas VXL-3s and 3500 brushless motor in mine. I don't race, but it has enough power to flip it over.

Have you been in the St. Charles HobbyTown some in recent weeks BareBones? I work for that store and am the big bearded guy with the hearse bodied WK.

Got all this today thanks for the help!

Nice, thought the story in your first post sounded familiar! I'm going to have to keep an eye on this thread now:cool

Made a bunch of progress. I'm still waiting on another set of Yeti links for the front and a gear set to unlock my front axle. But, so far, I've installed a second battery tray on the front of the chassis, which will let me put a sway bar in front. I noticed that the battery tray has all the mounting holes for the receiver box and ESC mount already. The only problem is that the ESC mount doesnt fit between the side walls of the battery tray. So, easy fix, I just took the dremel and made a few cuts and it fits!

I want this thing to be pretty bomb proof so I replaced literally every gear in the thing with hardened steel gears. I was a little worried about ordering a 20 something dollar spur gear but look at the size of it. This thing is insane

I also got the titanium steering linkage and front axles from Vanquish.

Aluminum goodness underneath.

And here's how it sits now. This thing is HUGE. It's got a nice Savox 277oz waterproof servo and a Castle brushless system. I can't wait to drive this thing. I've always wanted a hopped-up Clodbuster since I was a kid and never could afford one. I feel like I'm building the more modern version of that childhood dream!

Looks pretty cool bud. Thanks for sharing your build process here. Love to see the thought process and progress.

I'm not sure if you'd be interested in this, but since my ESC didn't quite fit the OE ESC mount, I ended up getting the following mount (the solid one) on eBay.

ESC Mount

Only $4 and had a better option to use double sided tape, or in my case I used 3M Dual Lock.

He had this rig in my store Sunday and again tonight, a co-worker and I both want to build one of these now too:emot147::emot147:

Well since my last posting about a month ago I've got this thing a little more done and I've been having SO much fun with it. It's out of commission right now because I lost all but one of the screws that holds the gear box to the skid plate. So I need to order an aluminum one and loctite the **** out of it.

I went with the yeti links in the front. So far other than losing those screws the only 2 problems I have are that my wheels come loose pretty easily. Which can be fixed with loctite. And the sway bars hit the springs no matter what I do. If they could be mounted even 1/16" further apart from each other it would be perfect. But overall it's awesome, way expensive to build but so worth it. I got more stuff I want to do to it but I'll just keep bashing it and replace stuff as it wears out. I love this truck!!!

Finished Chassis

Clear body

Painted and ready to roll

Could you post a list of part numbers for the gears and sway bars? I have one built as well and its high time to start to "bulletproof" it.

The sway bars are the Axial ones for the Wraith while the trans gears are the Robinson Racing ones for the original AX10 Scorpion as well as the still current SCX10, Dieselsoulja, I can get you the part numbers after work if Barebones doesn't have them.

BTW Barebones, I found a Duratrax non-nyloc nut that is still a washer head design that will have a bit better thread engagement as well as serated backside to use on my WK that will allow for use of thread lock and do a good job of holding the wheels on in that situation.

For the sway bars hitting the springs I did what the mod that I read over on prolines build. I cut the sway bar down and then re-notched it for the set screw and brought the arms right into the battery tray. Then I used a stand off on the end of the arm to the link to bring it back out a bit. No clearance issues at all now.
