Im over on the WK forum normally, but I'm picking up a relatively stock pede with a buncha sets of tires for it fer under 100.

needs a new ESC though, kid says its a bit janky but hasnt messed with it.

Lookin to make it a bit faster then stock and run paddles due to sand and snow that im surrounded by.

Any suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Welcome!

If your stampede is older than the gray plastic XL-5 model, you're going to want to upgrade to 5x11 Bearings right off the bat. These are going to last you much longer than the stock 5x8 size and will give you a night and day improvement over the stock bushings.
Also you will need RPM's 5x11 carriers to fit them to your truck.

RPM also makes many other quality items for your stampede and I would highly recommend them.

Enjoy the new truck and don't be shy! Post some pictures of the stampede when you get it!

Happy Holidays,

Good advice above, especially the metal gears. I've trashed many a plastic idler gear, and it's kind of a pain to pull the trans out to rebuild. Be sure to set the slipper clutch loose enough to slip a little, it'll save you headaches down the road. I race mine on the dirt oval and carpet jump truck class at the local track, and have more fun than the alot of the guys running $600+ vehicles. It's also a great basher, but if there's a local track near you, give it a try. Nothing like a pack of Stampedes running wheel to wheel for the win :tmb. Cheap, tough and fun...what more could you want? Try a 7 cell (depending on if the ESC can handle it) if you really want it to get up and go!

I would totally go with at least the RPM caster blocks. I just rebuilt my old Rustler and used all of my old VXL Stampede carriers with the 5x11 bearings, turnbuckles and upgraded the trans with the steel gears and bearings in the tranny. I have owned alot of R/C's from a $1500 titanium and alum Emaxx to RC18T and I have honestly got to say I have more fun with my Rustler and Stampede than any of them. You can beat the snot out of it and it keeps comming back for more.:tmb

oh finally got to look at it and try it out. kid said the ESC was janky and when i got to play with it it didn't respond at all. turns out the frequency chip thing that matched the receiver to the radio was mismatched. so I swapped in the plugs that I had with my WK, and still nothing with the Futaba radio the pede has. So I swapped the entire reciever over from my WK and put the frequency plugs back to original and I got movement. All forward seems fine, but no reverse. and the turning seems really weak. The servo can go much farther than it does when controlled to.

I have no ideas here, not into the nitty gritty of the operations of the whole thing.

What kind of esc does the truck have? You might have an esc with brakes, which some models have rather than reverse. As far as your radio situation goes, might be the radio, but if you get some crystals for it that are specifically for that radio than it may work. If not, just find a used Traxxas TQ2 and receiver, they are inexpensive and are perfect for a bashing application, no need for a top end radio in a stock pede

OK so I got a look at the ESC and its a Duratrax Sprint esc w/ reverse...When I plugged the WK reciever in and used the WK radio I had to switch the throttle controll to reverse as opposed to normal for it to do anyhting as well. :-(
