Hello RCMT. I've been lurking around for a while now and figured I'd re-introduce myself. I was into monster trucks and a member on this forum a good few years ago (wow, back in like 97/98) with an XL-1 Stampede, and then the later years of high school and college took over, so drifted away for a while.

Well, flash forward to Christmas last year when my fiance got me a New Bright International CXT. I played with it for a while until I stripped the rear diff internals, and thats when the thoughts started to fly. I was able to "rig" the truck with stampede front and rear end, the old electronics, and it was dead slow. Had a run-time of like 5 minutes. I'll post a snap shot once I get home tonight of when I had it together, as It's already torn apart.

Looking to get back into it now and cant make up my mind. I've always wanted a clod, so I think I'll start slow with that and go from there. But there's also the option of a Wheely King with clod wheels/tires, and the Ground Pounder. Then there's also that little gremlin in the back of my head telling me to build another 4x4 stampede. Either way, I'll be working on making a 19" wheelbase for the CXT body.

But it's good to see the forum still going, and the hours and hours of information steady growing. Also good to see a couple familiar names on here such as Orange Pedeanaut. I remember shooting emails back and forth with you about building stampedes.

Anyways, looking forward to being able to contribute to the community, and getting back into the trucks.

Welcome back :)

Right now is an awesome time for R/C'ers. Battery and motor technology have increased BIGTIME allowing more runtime and power than ever.

I remember that name as well William (I'm pretty sure you're the same one)

You're 100% right on the technology. And these RTR kits out now are making it real hard for me to decide thats for sure. Your wheely kings are making me lean heavily in that direction. Some nice trucks you have.

Never too late to get back into this hobby. Efficiency is at a all time high so the days of 15 minutes of fun and 4 hours of charging are over. Wills projects are always cool and with the affordability of a Wheely King it is hard to pass up. They sure are durable.

Welcome back!

Welcome back!

The WK is a great truck. Very durable and the aftermarket support is great. You can turn the truck into whatever you want once you get tired of the stock configuration.

Thanks for the welcome backs. I think I've decided to go with the wheely king and the HPI conversion for now. Well, will probably be a while since the fiance lost her job not too long ago, but I can always plan right...otherwise I'd be getting Will's information right now. Haha

Anyways. Here's my rigged New Bright Stampede:

The wheel diameter was 3.25" and the tire diameter was 6.25" on the original. With those wheels and tires the truck would barely move. I threw in a 96t spur gear and that helped it creep a little bit with an Epic 27 turn motor on an old XL-1 ESC. Figuring the tires were too tall, I started to put 2.2" wheels on but it just looked goofy, so I trimmed the beads off of an extra set of stampede tires I found and stretched them over the NB wheels in the back. Upfront is a pair or of Proline Mashers that were so soft I didnt even have to trim them. And that is pretty much where it sat creeping around the house until I took it apart not too long ago.

HA. I was trying to find some old pics, but forgot that my old computer took a dump on me, and I wasnt able to salvage anything.

How's everything going? I saw that your collection has taken off a good bit.

Yeah, now I own all sorts of junk instead of just a couple things.... LOL

What you been up to?

Yeah, I've still got my old stampede. It's just a bunch of different pieces now. Jumping over cars in 20 degree weather for 3 hours snapped the chassis in half, and that pretty much started me drifting away from R/C cars. Started autocrossing and drag racing after high school, and that took over the R/C fun. After that I got my associates in automotive technology, i ended up being an auto mechanic. Now its work, work, work. Esp now since covering for the misses part of the deal.

Look forward to seeing those pictures. I may just put my time into reviving the old stampede as I save some pennies for a new truck to tinker with.

At least the traxxas parts are cheap enough, heck you can even find slash chassis dirt cheap if you decided to go that route

Thanks for the offer. Much appreciated. I'm going to scrounge around boxes between my place and my parents house to see what all I actually have left over. I did find enough parts between two electric 4-tecs that my nephew destroyed to put one together. Not a truck, but I do have some Tamiya 1.9" BFG mud terrain tires from an old TA-02 kit. Should do somewhat decent off-road with some decent gearing and a decent battery.

As far as the stampede goes, it needs a main chassis, the rear skid-plate, and a set of springs. I do remember ordering a spare chassis years ago, but have a feeling the parents tossed it along with other needed parts. We shall see.

I remember that truck picture
Wasn't there a bit of a stink because the roof was cut off what people thought was a mountaineer body?

Haha. Yeah, that's a flashback for sure. Esp. Mikes monster trucks. Sorry I didnt see this sooner. Took a quick weekend trip upto Reedsville, PA to visit with the fiance's family before she starts back to school next semester.

And I do rememeber complaints about the roof being cut off, but it was actually a radio shack toyota pickup. That was actually one of the trucks that got me interested in the hobby level of r/c trucks. Had suspension that actually worked, and was decently quick in "HI" gear.
