Gday all, I'm a new member who's been looking around the place for a little while, checking things out. I just wanted to say "Hi" and kind of introduce myself. I'm a middle aged Aussie who's a big kid at heart. I've never really been into R/C's or modelling much during the course of my life so far, but I've always thought an R/C Monster Truck would be a ton of fun for just messing around with. Located here in Australia, our (and in particular my) exposure to Monster Trucks is not zero, but it's definately limited. I have known of monster trucks since a young age and of course know of some of the old school and original MT's, in particular Bigfoot & King Kong, along with many of the big name and popular MT's since.

Moving on ... I was given a "gift certificate" of sorts, as a christmas gift. However at the time I was interested in possibly getting into some (pardon the swearing) R/C drifting. Looking into it further, I discovered that there was basically none going on in my area. And having a very young family, travelling too far is not a desirable option currently. So with some time and thought, I came to the conclusion that a R/C monster truck would fulfull many childhood fantasies and be a mountain of fun. Also, I could do it around home or close to home while possibly becoming an interest for my kids as they grow (twin girls so I'm not holding out much hope). ;)

While looking into R/C MT's I have come to the conclusion that I definately want more of a scaled replica type of truck as opposed to the seemingly more common racing type of trucks that don't look like a classic or traditional MT. Unfortunately, the local hobby shop only has 1 of the Traxxis Monster Jam Grave Digger's and nothing else. Not being a Grave Digger fan, I'd prefer to go in a slightly different direction than making that purchase. I'd love to get my hands on a R/C MT kit if possible as I would like to learn as much as possible about the many different aspects of the truck and it's various parts along the way. But the ones I've seen that I like all seem to be quite expensive for my budget, especially when I factor in postage charges. I'm not opposed to spending the money to get what I really want mind you, but I'm wanting to make sure I spend what little I have wisely. Thus, I may have to go the RTR route, which would be fine too as the fun factor is all I'm really chasing for starters. I want to keep in mind though, that if any breakages occcur, I will want to know what to fix, and how to fix it.

So currently, I'm looking at things like the Clodbuster, Wheely King, Midnight Pumpkin, Blackfoot, Wild Willy 2 etc. I don't really know of many other options, so please feel free to offer any suggestions you guys might have. The 4x4x4 of the Clodbuster is obviously a major attraction for me, however it's scaricity, cost and lack of people willing to post to Australia might make it a difficult purchase. At least in kit form anyway. I do know where I can get the limited edition chrome one from online, but the chrome body is a bit too much for me. Going that route and changing the body is definately an option though. The Wheely King is also high up on the possible options list also, I just haven't been able to find out if there is a kit version. Does anyone know one way or the other? Other than that I might have to try and pick up something that has already been built or is RTR. Looking over some of the members rides has me insanely jealous, especially all the replicas! SO much awesome work and fantastic looking trucks!

Anyway, thats enough rambling from me, thanks to all who've taken the time to read all this rubbish. :cool

Ohh, and is there a glossary section around here anywhere? I do struggle with some of the acronyms and terminology you guys use at times.

Have Fun & Stay Happy!

Welcome to RCMT. The Wheely King is not offered in kit form. Tamiya is one of the few companies selling kits, most have gone RTR for their entire line.

The Clod is quite a bit bigger than a Wheely King and has two motors, one on each axle so that not as realistic as a Wheely King with the one motor in the chassis connected by driveshafts. But out of the box the Wheely King has a distincly toyish feel whereas the Clod is sturdy old-school MT fun very closely mimicing the retro trucks from the 80s in terms of performance. A modified Wheely King performs more like a modern MT but remember a modded Wheely King can end up costing more than a Clod most of the time.

Welcome to the board ! IMO if you can get a clod kit i would start there (you always can put a different body on )

you can get quite a few different chassis for the clod race , tube , mod the stock one ,build your own . Like kjr2 said WK's are much smaller than clods still fun but need work out of the box to make them durable with any power added

and if you don't know ask we are here to help :)

Thanks guys.

I just found the RCMT Dictionary and Data base too. :)

It should prove somewhat helpful!

Is there a smack the forehead smiley anywhere?

Can I suggest a TXT 1?

Don't really know you budget, but they are kits and I think you could get one shipped from Japan instead of the states for cheaper?

Also you should check with your LHS (Local Hobby Shop) to see if they can get parts for any of the rigs you're looking at. Nothing stink more then down time waiting on parts to arrive:mad

Btw.....Welcome aboard!!!

Welcome to the board, i would have to agree that the Clodbuster is a great choice but like mentioned above you might want to see if you can get parts at your LHS or you might just have to order extra parts when you do decide on what truck to get. I know the Traxxas MJ pede may not be the scale looking truck but there are tons of parts usually carried at most LHS. Anyways have fun in making a choice and hope to see you around building something. :D

Welcome aboard
Feel free to ask any question, people here don't rip on a new guy. :) No question is "dumb".

Clod, or TXT are kits, though if you cannot get parts easily I might steer clear and find a RTR that you can get support for
