Thank you! Great place!

I just found this body from another member on this forum, I love it, definitely something different! Anyone know how it was painted and/or who did it? And possibly who makes this Super Duty body?

body is a proline F250 easy to get online or most LHS .... the design is usually a wrap some guys do paint

Also decide what scale/size of truck you want. That Blue Thunder Super Duty is over twice as big as the Losi Raminator and a lot bigger than the Wheely King trucks.

Moral of the story is you can get a truck that is tiny like 8" overall to a truck that is gigantic like 24" overall length.

Here is a pic showing a Wheely King next to a truck with the same tires that are on that Blue Thunder

Here is a Wheely King next to a Tamiya Lunchbox which is bigger than a Losi Raminator

Here is Wheely King next to Traxxas Stampede

That's all I have for siz ecomparison shots. At this time I only own 2 wheely kings and one Clod Buster that is in a million pieces so I can't really get any more size comparison photos.

The member im2tall posted these pics of a Ground Pounder (black) next to a Venom Creeper (similar size to Stampede and Wheely King)

Ok, cool, but what about a 57 Chevy body for an Avenger? Easy to find as well?
I had one on my old Clodzilla 3 Clod Buster back in the day. I used a Parma 57 Chevy car body for touring cars. you can get that at Tower Hobbies.

That is a larger body. It would be too big for a Stampede or Wheely King IMO. You would need a Clod Buster or Ground Pounder or something that scale.

here is the one I had. It shoudl be easy enough to make into an Avenger

Ya, I think I have pretty much narrowed my choice down to what I am planning on doing. I like the scale of the Wheely King (1/10 Scale?) and the way it looks compared to a real monster truck. I think I am going to get the Wheely King (either the normal or the 2Xtreme Trucks) and mod it to be faster and more realistic. The Wheely King seems great for a first truck, I was looking at the Savage Flux XS as well, I like the speed of it, but it doesn't have the look that the WK has. I'm going to either build up a Grave Digger or a Black Bounty Hunter. I can get another Expedetion body and and have my local graphics place wrap it like the Black Bounty Hunter (my local shop happens to be Transport Graphics which does the real Bounty Hunter, Outlaw, and Bandit). Unless there is something that will change my mind over to the Savage XS.

Savage XS is larger than a Wheely King. It's one scale bigger. it also has 4 wheel indi suspension and low profile tires. But it is fast. If you're looking for realisitc monster truck don't get the Savage XS. I would be great to just bash around and go fast but it will never look like monster truck.

The old go-to choice for monster trucks was the Tamiya Clod Buster but Tamiya discontinued the current version so they are harder to find now. We expect an updated version will be released in 2012 though to celebrate 25 years of Clod Buster on the market.

But the most unrealisitic thing about the Clod Buster is that it has a motor on each axle and no center transmission. So you have 2 motors on that truck. The wheely king has one motor in the center with a single speed transmssion powering the live axles with sliding shafts.

You can get the Wheely King RTR with a Bounter Hunter body from the facotry

HPI used to offer a Scarlet Bandit and the Iron Outlaw too but they don't anymore. You can get the body but not the ready-to-run version.

Just remember the Wheely King has some weak points in stock form too.

Actually let me re-phrase that. If you don't change anything at all, the WK will last you a long time. but you'll be going pretty slow that whole time. It's when you upgrade the motor and battery you find out quickly that the stock gears in the pumpkins weren't made to go super fast or take abuse

Thanks for all of the information. It's funny, I talked to a guy at my local hobby shop the other day about the WK and he said it was only offered in the Pickup body and the Iron Outlaw body now, which I knew was weird. Is that Bounty Hunter Wheely king on there the new "improved" waterproof version that is shown on HPI's site? And yes, I plan on swapping out motors in the future because I have heard it was kind of slow, glad to know of the other parts that need to be swapped with it. Are they hard to work on, as in take apart, replace parts, and put back together? Does it come with tools needed to do so?

My hobby shop is always giving me incorrect information too.

Wheely Kings are easy to work on IMO. Here is two vids that show the size pretty good. I keep harping on the size because they are smaller than I thought they were and was initially a little bummed but now I like their size and my Wheely Kings are my favorite trucks. Easy to carry, light weight so they can be pretty fast with one motor (many larger trucks have 2 motors), you don't need a huge area to run them etc.

Looks like just the perfect size for me! Not too big, and not too small. You have any recommendations on what I should upgrade on it in the future? I'm wanting to get a list going for when I get one.

There might be a topic pinned at the top of the wheely king forum but I would say if you want more speed change the motor and battery.

Hpi offers option motors in 20 turn and 15 turn. Stock is 27 turn. The fewer the number of turns the faster the motor. A 15 turn motor has roughly half the number of turns as the stock motor and there will draw roughly twice the amps/power and will spin at a way higher rpm which means faster truck and shorter run time on the battery before it needs recharged.

A better battery in itself will often give you slightly higher tops speed and a significant boost in acceleration.

If you go with the 20 turn option motor you probably won't need to upgrade anything else except the gear on the motor. You'll need to change that gear .(called pinion. gear) to change the gear ratio so you don't over heat the.motor and ESC. In general, going down on the number of turns for the.motor means you need a smaller gear. Down= down. The instructions for the truck have a chart telling you what gears to use with what motor.

If you go for the 15t motor you're gonna need to hop up some internals. First will be the gears in the rear pumpkin. Heavy duty ring and pinion can be had for $15. Those will be the first to strip.
Even though the stock rear end gears are metal they are a soft pot metal. Next would be the transmission gears. Stock is plastic gears. They are decent theyll last a while but they will strip. Aluminum upgrade set of gears are $30 I think and steel gears are $50. I

Sweet, thanks for the information. I have definitely made up my mind on the WK. One more question, I hate to keep asking, but does anyone have a link to where I can buy a Grave Digger body that will fit the Wheely King? I know I was talking about Bounty Hunter before, but I have new plans now.
