New member and expecting a new clod. (Chrome clod build w/ pics)

Happy New Year everybody! Finally my ball bearings came in and I was able to start assembling my clod last night. I guess it was a great way to start the New Year.

From the get go (step 2 of assembly), I already ran into some problem with the servo horn for steering because I am running a Hitec servo. The kit did not come with a servo horn for my servo but good thing I was able to work something out. So far I got the both the axles and and the chassis done. I also put a first coat on the lexan body I'm going to use when I dorun the clod. here are the pics:

Here is the body I will use when I do run the clod. The original platinum body will not see runtime, it will be a pure shelf queen.

More to come guys. Next batch of pics should have the metallic (chrome) body on. I'm really digging this version of the clod.

Ok, I got my chrome clod about 95% done. I just need to put the body details and mount the tire. But what the heck is wrong with the tires that come with clods this days. They are covered with some kind of wax. I did not notice it at first until I started to mount one on the wheel. I had the original clod 12 years ago and I don't remember my tires having that nasty stuff. How do you guys get rid of this? was this intentionally done by Tamiya?

I'll have the pics tomorrow hopefully.

there is a thread on this in the sticky section of the clod section. most the guys on there say to use simple green on the tires. hope this helps.

My clod is finally done. I just realize how outdated clod is, the shocks are so stiff and the suspension travel is very limited. But at the same time, this is what makes a stock clod fun to drive. I might have to change the shocks in the future though as they are just plain loud when the truck is bouncing around. I might also modifify the steering somehow be cause even with a high torque servo, the front wheels won't turn when going forward and the rear wheels wont turn when going backwards. How tight do you guys set the stock servo saver?

Here are some of the pics I took during the build:

Here is my bashing body still in the painting process here. My son wanted to be in the pic also. He loves the clod buster, I might have to get him a Tamiya Lunchbox for his bday in may.

Bashing body done. I kept it simple but I might add some more stickers to make it faster.

the Chrome edition body

Here it is, the final product. This thing is a work of art. The pics don't do the justice of how nice the Chrome body looks. You have to see it in person. I'm not even sure if I should put the SuperClod stickers. Should I keep it the way it is or shoud I put he stickers according to the manual? what do u guys think?

I'll take some outdoor shots tomorrow if the weather is nice enough.

Looks great. I'd hate to drive it in the sun though! I like that these kits come with the black bumpers, rodends, suspension parts, etc. I never really liked the blue stuff. Yoiur driver body came out nice too.

I decided not to put the decals on the Metallic body because it ruins the whole metallic chrome thing. At the same time, I did not want to waste the superclod decals that came with the kit, so I ended up using the decals on my bashing body which is a chevy lexan body. I really like the outcome. Check it out:

What do you guys think?

Also, do you guys think I can run 7cell with tamiya ESC that came witht he chrome edition?
