Welcome aboard
I very highly doubt it has bearings, most likely it only has the same old bushings. :-(

Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to order the clod bearing set. Also I forgot to ask another question.

Can I fit a 7 cell NiHM battery in a stock clod? in what configuration (hump or flat)?

according to UPS, my clod should arrive today. I can't wait.

thanks again

Not sure on the 7 cell or not. But let's see pics of the bad body when it arrives. I haven't seen a built up chrome kit yet.

The SuperClodBuster kit comes with metal bearings and plastic bearings. I never had any problems with plastic bearings through out the years. So I nevered bothered ordering full metal bearings. w

EDIT:
Wrong wording, it is a bushing. There is a HUGE difference between bearing and bushing. Bushings wear, and get sloppy. They also cause the shafts they ride on to wear.
Sorry but wrong wording or not, I have checked the SuperClodBuster instruction manual already and it say's plastic bearings in the parts list.:wnk I`ve ran stock Clods since 89 and never had issues with wear or sloppy performance. I'm just one of few lucky ones I guess who has nevered had any real problems.

Good luck on your build.

a flat 7 will fit, the original clod was build to accustom the 8.4 volt gold racing pack, remove the little bars that are inside of the battery-holders on both sides.

Have fun with your build!

Ball Bearings in the gearboxes are nice in the fact that they lower rolling resistance.Everything turns more freely and the benefits thereof are reaped.

I tell everyone to invest in a Thunder Tech racing ball Diff for the rear. Immensely aids in the truck's climbing ability. ESP Hobby wide ride is also a good bolt on upgrade. That was the first ever mod I did to my stock Clod. The two inches of extra width made the truck far more stable and happier in corners. I addition to the 7 cell battery you mentioned (even on stock motors) It will be a great truck to whip around with.

Have fun using pan cars as ramps!

Alright guys! My Clod chrome edition just arrived and of course I will take some pics. I am actually taking some pics right now as I am typing here. I will post them later after for you guys of course.

since this is pretty much my introduction thread, here is a little clod story from me:

I have actually been a clod guy for a long time since I was 15 back in 1998 but I left the hobby for about 8 years. I was actually a member of this forum (I think it is this forum) and one of the forum member that I can remember from back then is "bigpoppopit." Does that screen name ring a bell to you guys here? That guy helped me out with my clod in this forum. I ended up having a super roostered clodzilla III with a grave digger body and I actually bashed the stock chevy body and ran it over with my grave digger clodzilla until that chevy clod body were in pieces. That was a wrong move but that was ten years ago, now I would die for an original stock clod.

Like I mentioned earlier, I've been away from the hobby for awile but actually kept my clodzilla in storage. I got back in the hobby two and a half years ago but not really for the clod. I got back because of the traxxas rustler vxl on youtube that caught my attention. It was going 70mph and I was like...wow. I bought one and then my RC addiction came back in. My collection started growing fast; first the rustler vxl, then bought a slash, an ERBE, savage xl, scx10 and an HPI baja 5t. Just a few months ago, I pulled my clodzilla out of the storage but not to run it, but to sell it so I can buy parts for my baja. That was another wrong move for me with my clod. After selling it, all of a sudden the clod bug bit me again. I went shopping online for a clod and realized that the super clodbuster has been discontinued. I found out about the chrome edition and good thing it was Christmas and used that as an excuse to buy one. I'm glad I bought this chrome edition as it looks plain beautiful. This clod really brings back memories from how excited I was back when I got my first hobby RC, the 1st gen clod, 12 years ago. It is just amazing that for some reason, even now after owning some of the better RC availble in the hobby today with better technology than the clod, the clod still brings a different kind of excitement to me. Maybe because I'm a big fan of real monster trucks but still, to compare a clod's performance to something like an ERBE or a baja is like night and day. But if I can only have one RC, I think it would still be the clod.

I hope the people in Tamiya feels the same way about the clod and gives us a present on clod's 25th anniversary. I hope they re-release the 1st gen red clod again. What do you guys thing of the chances of that?

Here some pics of my old clod before I sold it that I found.

Here it is with the grave digger body on the right.

Then here it is seen in the background with the red bigfoot body

I don't know why I sold it but good thing I was able to buy a New SuperClod Chrome. here it is!

The body was wraped in some kind of wax paper. The body really looks amazing.

Now I might have to pospone the build as I am still thinking of ordering some ball bearings. I will post some pics for sure of the progression. This clod will be a semi shelf queen. I will only run it indoors with the chevy lexan body and I will never run the chrome body.

Anyways, do you guys know if the Tamiya dual motor ESC included with this chrome kit can handle 7cell. In the manual, it only said 6cell but they did not specify that 6 cell is the max capacity. It just said requires 6 cell.

Yes, BPP (big poppa pitt) was a member here until he went to Germany I believe then disapeared.

Chromed body looks HOT
I should buy one to build a shelfer, but that'll never happen I'd get stupid and run it. :tong

good call on ordering bearings. my super clod came with 4 bearings and the rest were the plastic bushings. it's not worth it to build it with the bushings.

do yourself a favor and order a strong steering servo for it.

i'd also get a parma lexan clod body to run with, keep that chrome one nice for the shelf.

Yuppie; I gots one :). Had it for quite some time like 2 years or so. Still in its box and wrapped in the paper. As you know by now; its just a plated version of the Super Clod. Has the dual motor ESC and black plastics. Wish it would have came with the chrome ladder bars like the Bullhead; that would have been sweet. Congrats on your Clod!

Very nice!
Oh and on the 7-cell thing, I use 3000mAh packs in mine, very tight fit. I don't think that the larger mAh packs would fit though.

I have had 4600mah packs in mine and if you don't mind a hump pack; I built a 5000mah D-cell pack for one of my Clod pullers that fit right in the stock battery mounts.
