this is going to get a lot of buyers who didn't buy a high lift because of price, and not RTR.

Yes, the high lift not RTR doesn't appeal to todays many gratification now crowd.

This is a really cool little truck from the looks, and I'll bet will make a awesome project starting point.

Comming with bearings too it's better than a pede.

Not even thinking about projects, I'm excited about this truck stock! And you're right--low price, RTR, bearings, ESC--it should sell a lot of units this Xmas. It should be a lot of fun for a cheap RTR.

Clicky

Hey gang, Kevin and I were snooping the HPI site this morning and discovered this. Click the pic and enlarge it, you'll see the front output of the tranny is capped off. Looks like there will be a conversion kit down the road.

:) We can only hope. I am really close to throwing this thing on backorder at tower. I dont care if the price drops when its released. Thats pretty much a bargain as is! I dunno if i should tho. I'd like to use a coupon cause i'm a cheapo, but i dont think coupons are valid towards backorders.

My only concern if this is made into 4wd. How much do you need to gear down just not to overload the single stock motor and esc. Maybe thats the reason they released it 2wd only.

Will it also inherit torque twist if its 4wd?

wit shaft drive it'll have torque twist 2wd or 4wd. Nature of a driveshaft at a 90 degree angle to the axle.
Ask any muscle car guy ;)

Kevin,
Don't back order, coupon won't apply. :(

stampedes aint that high, i dont think.... im glad i bought my hilift instead of that thing... dont get me wrong it looks awsome, and from the pics it has potential, but at what cost??? 200 to start, then the batt... then a charger.... then you need to source the parts for 4wd ect..... then i know if they do get the parts, someones gona change the motor and esc.... but i guess for someone who hates building trucks, this is a good alternative... just have to wait and see when it comes out...

I'm going to defend the HPI truck here. I don't mean to attack any body here, just wanted to state my opinions on the matter which are very different.

Stampede is $179 at Tower Hobbies. It used to be $165 or something but Tower raised the price. Is it me, or does Tower raise the price of all their kits/rtr as xmas gets close? I remember they did it last year too...

uhm aren't these things the size or a close size to the TLT?
No, TLT = 1/18. These are 1/12 (and big for a 1/12 too) about the size of a Stampede. According the the HPI site it is -- 17" long end to end, 11.7" wide, 10" high, 9.4" wheelbase, 5.3" tires, 6" travel. So is a bit bigger than a TLT.

and for near 200 bucks it seems quite high considering you can grab a TLT for 60 - 70 bucks.
TLT is $60-$70 but has no bearings, no ESC, no servo, no radio...

200 to start, then the batt... then a charger....
It comes with a 1500mAh batt that is supposedly good for 20min of runtime, and a wall charger but why would you bring up a battery and charger when comparing it to a High Lift? That doesn't come with a battery or charger...

Why are we comparing this to a highlift anyways? They are nowhere near the same thing. Just because they are both new? AFAIK, nobody even knew anything about this when the highlift kit was released, so.. why would someone pass on a highlift for this if they didnt know about it? Very confused on that part, but I like this a lot too and can say I plan to be one of the first to order when they are released. I think they look sweet.

Easiest way to picture the size on this truck guys is to think about the tires. This new truck has what, 5.5 inch tall tires? Something like that. Remember clods are only 6 inches.

Also most of you average 1/10 scale truck bodies average aprox 17 or so inches in length.

By these dimensions, you could easily call this 1/10 scale when you consider the Jugg, Clod, and High Lift have 1/12 scale bodies. It just seems that HPI was more honest with the advertised scale. Like Offroadford4x4 said, tire 5.5" tires say it all. The TLT is 1:18 and everyone uses those axles in 1:10 scale builds, so don't knock a truck for being advertiesed as 1:12. Check the dimensions KJR2 posted and compare them to any 1:10 of your choice.

One more thing, the TLT is no bargain unless you get the TLT-1 Rock Buster from Ultimate Hobbies. Everone else sold the Rockbuster for $110-$119.99 and up. It was no bargain. The TLT-1 Max Climber is $139.99 at Tower and Ultimate Hobbies. There is no justifications for the price hike either as only the body, rims and barry cups are changed.

OK, silly question of the day:

Why did HPI misspell "wheelie?"

Not that it matters much since it's the truck that's important, but Wheely King misspelled or not is a flat-out *terrible* name. Don't they have a marketing department there at HPI? :lol

Cool looking truck, ill probably get one if funds allow...

Im still trying to figure out what kerbs are Loco LOL

Also, I see 3 different tire sizes according to their site. 5.4", 5", and 5.3" do a little reading lol :)

I'm not going by the specs on what they say the size is, i'm just going by the pic of it with the pistol grip radio next to it and that alone gives the best idea on the size and I would have to say it's TLT ish.
