the upper support plate that runs across from the rear gearbox TOP to the front TOP.
I had that chassis, as well as the ta02 version. They save weight and stiffen it up bigtime

I had a TL01 to when they first came out,I had full aluminim suspension a a bunch of other stuff!!Here's the kicker I still had a silver can and a AM radio!!LOL!!I was a newb and I had my priorities mixed up!!Looks over perfomance is usually a bad formula!

this TL01 will be for racing at the track in gaithersburg on wed nights. a few buddies have been talking about getting back into stock class racing so we came up with the TL01 class where anything goes except it must either have:
the stock silver can with speed tuned gears or the black can speed motor with stock gears. bearings allowed along with all other hop up options that do not present a gear change or significant advantage(no sway bars).
so far the best thing that helped with the TL01 was the bearings and GPM steering stuff. it made the car much more stable.

the TA02 is just my nostalgia car that i kept from when i first started r/c. ill keep modifying it and once in a while run it just for old time sake. its my pride and joy.:p

just wanted to add, if you see any tamiya original packaged hop up options for either the TL01 or the TA02 at your LHS please pm me or email me and let me know. i will pay you to pick them up for me and ship them to me. im planning on keeping these 2 cars and maybe building a 3rd and 4th with all my spare parts.

thanks guys!!!!

yeah, meant the TA01 or TA02
It's supposed to have a top plate, at least the ones I raced when they came out always did

its hard to see in the pics but it does have a top plate, it just does not connect to either gearbox due to the fact that the HPI chassis was FRP compared to the flexy tamiya plastic. ill try to take more pics tonite, i had to contact HPI about getting some info on the chassis and need to send them pics so they can figure out which style it is.

so far i do know that my car has everything TA02 except the HPI chassis is for a TA01 as its streched a little longer and needed a longer prop shaft than the TA02. so i ordered a GPM replacement unit for a TA01 to replace the tamiya TA02 hop up option part. its really confusing that they changed the car that much between the 2(rear a arms, chassis, prop shaft).

TA01's came out first and had the rear arms sweep forward and the 1150 red front knuckles
First sedan ws the nissan all previous were buggies like the manta.
TA02's chassis was shorter, but depending on the body the rear arms could be swept rear for a long body, straight for shorter and the black porsche tiacard (SP?) was the only one swept forward. Most TA02's also had the blue knuckles, exceptions being the trucks like f150, c10 and toymota

The upper chassis plate is needed to stiffen it up, with only a lower plate the chassis will flex even more than the stock tub design
