My version of the Wheely King

Well right after I joined the boards I mentioned the project that kind of recaptured my interest in the RC monster scene. Its not finished by a long shot (as you can tell by the clear lid) but the major parts are there. I was looking to build something a little different but hopefully competitive. This thing runs pretty good so far and will flat track on asphalt (with a little driver finesse!) so I think it is on the right track for a shafty with a high mounted battery. Lots of hours invested in figuring out link lengths, steering and such. Really happy with the way the swaybars turned out! Now all I need is some racing closer than a 8 hours drive. Well, let the newbee have it. What do you all think?

Looks good. If you could get the motor and batt lower it would make a big difference. How wide is the truck with the clod tires? How is the gearing with the clod tires?

Thanks for the comments! The chassis is so compact that battery and motor do pose a problem as far as position. To kind of offset that the lower links are stainless and the rodends are metal, and the axles are the RC4wd aluminums. All that weight lower down seems to help offset the motor and battery a little and helps to "plant" the truck. It balances well on jumps for the most part. All the gears have been upgraded to hardened steel and are stock ratios except I dropped two teeth on the pinion. Axle shafts do continue to plague this thing though. They were never meant to turn these meats or push this weight (especially being pushed by a Mamba!!). This may cause me to do a slight redesign and drop in a milder motor / ESC and go with a Marui Big Bear tire setup.....Hmmmm

Alot of modified parts on it. Many hours went into building the links to get the stability / look right and I ham fairly pleased with them currently. The truck in its present state has a wheelbase of 11 5/8" and a stance of 14".

This truck has been a blast so far but no sure I am going to get exactly what I was after so it may turn into a pur epaly truck. Guess that is why I have been collecting parts for a race clod build!:shk

Here's a couple more pics, hopefully...

I've got a JConcepts Illusion trimmed for it right now that looks pretty good. If I change the tires out thought that might change.

Good looking truck so far! :tmb What wheels and tires are those and did you have to use wideners to get them to fit?

Not sure on the colors, till thinking about the paint scheme for the lid of this one. The tires and wheels are stock Clods and I am running the RC4WD widners on it.
