Just saw this truck in person today - absolutely amazing! To think the short amount of time this truck went from pieces to completed product and seeing how it ran today says it has a ton of potential left in it. It ran pretty good so that is kinda scary...

Thanks John! You're too kind, especially considering how badly I drove it this weekend. Definitely some way to go when it comes to working the setup and and learning how to push it.

Will, I went with the RRP steel idler gear and spool for the axial trans. The spool weighs a ton.. but its the only steel option I know of and Im not trusting this kind of horsepower and weight to plastic gears.

KingClod, The wheelbase is right around 12 inches. Little longer than stock without looking goofy.

Hey Mo was trying to get ahold of you to ask you about this project. I did see a pic of it with the body on and its got a nice stance. I have mine mocked up right now with a max d body as well. I think scale wise it looks better with the stock wheely king tires over the monster jam stampede tires. So....What did you think about those tires? Did you end up modding them at all or are you going to? Are you pretty happy with that sway bar setup still? Did that setup feel tippy out there on the carpet? Looks like it would be pretty stable....just curious as I want to get mine going now that I have some funds to work with!

The body does fit perfectly on there Eric thats for sure. Its not gonna stay long though. Im not a big fan of running replica bodies and while this looks great on there and helped me out of a bind since I didnt have time to paint a body, its getting replaced.

I like the tires alot. Performance wise they are definitely tall and while Im sure a much smaller tire would be easier to drive Im in love with the big old chevrons on there. Im gonna try to shave them down and see if that helps at all. The swaybar is really REALLY stiff the way its setup. Its great because there is ZERO torque twist but its very very sketchy to handle at speed, especially with the tall tires. I kind of like my trucks to feel like that so Im not sure if Ill change it but I may experiment with thinner bars though just to see what its like.

Well I broke a lower link mount at the Worlds just messing around and I should have my replacements this week. Once I get it all fixed up Ill post some video of it tearing my tiny backyard up!

My new lower link mounts STILL havent showed up yet! Im getting impatient.. so I fixed up some other things that have been bothering me while I wait.

Moved the sway bard to the lower links and made them a little thinner. The super stiff setup was nice but it just traction rolled too easily. Ill live with a little torque twist for the stability. I have some purdy titanium links coming to replace the haggard mismatched ones I have on there now.

Also added in a 32 pitch spur and pinion after seeing how chewed up the 48 pitch got after some hard running. I dont think its as much that the 48 is too weak as it is the INSANE amount of play in the top shaft in the axial transmission. Its almost enough for the 48 pitch gears to skip right over each other and you could see it was taking the edges off some of the teeth on the spur gear. Hopefully the bigger 32 pitch teeth will add hold up better to the movement of the top shaft.

I honestly think the top shaft is just machined too thin. I have tried a few new ones and they all wobble. Im gonna try to look into getting one machined to a more precise 5mm outer diameter.

Here are some more pics of the new spur setup and all of the other electronics.

I think I might just cancel my order for the stock link mounts and get some CKRC aluminuminuminum ones! Also thinking some aluminum knuckles would be nice too since I have broken 4 of the stockers already. Im also having issues with the spider gears. I have blown up the HPI hardened steel units and the stockers in the front axle. The rear is holding up fine so maybe they were just defective sets but replacing them is getting old fast.

how did you make the swaybars to ball-cups? Did you buy that setup or did you solder it? Looks real clean, do they pop out under load?

Its just some good old music wire and DuBro heavy duty ball ends. Solder loves music wire and brass so I just sanded the music wire to a really rough finish where the solder was applied and go to town with the iron. Its an old airplane linkage trick to solder them on like that.

I guess they could pop off under really extreme angles but I haven't had any issues with it yet. I used to do this on my Powers chassis sway bars and they always held up well.
