My Tlt Project

ok, where did you get those wheels and tires, then how did you make adaptors?

Looks like the tires from one of those 120.oo walmart rock climbers?

I should snap pics of my tlt project to share.
Started back on it now that RCMT is running and my F350 is running w/ the big rig chassis.

Even so I will have to dismantle it as the pede tranny diff isn't locked, but couldn't wait to start mocking it all up.

I have it using a New Bright jeep body and proline moabs.

That is going to be really cool!!!!!

The wheels and tires are definitely from the Wal-Mart crawler, but they sell the wheels/tires by themselves so you don't need to buy the junky truck...

I have the truck, and a seperate set of tires and rims. I kinda like the crawler, does halfway decently and you can get one on clearance for like 30$ now... if you can find one.

The adaptors are actually clod hubs screwed to the back of the rims. They are 3 piece beadlock rims and the tires are suprisingly soft.

I am looking for someone to do custom paint if anyone knows how! Thanks guys :)

Its suprisingly soft, I didnt think for being a Wal-Mart truck that the tires would be as good as they are. And, they are REAL BEADLOCKS! 3 piece rim! Ive got about 3 pounds of BB's to put in the tires so its gonna weigh at least 10 pounds when im done... Hoping to get the shock mount and lower link mount taken care of tomorrow so I can get this thing going soon! Thanks :)

Use a sharpie and trace the tires out on the body to get the wheel wells open enough for clearence

then get some scrap lexan and make inner fenders or skirts so the openings don't look goofy :truck

Thats the plan, gotta figure out how much artic it has first then ill start cuttin :) Just finished one lower link mount, now one more to go then shock mount arms...

that looks like an 80's mud bogger with the tall skinny tires like that ;)

just noticed, 4 wheel steering?
Are you going to use a 3ch radio or a 2ch and full time 4 wheel steer?

If 3 ch check my post in the hilift forum for a easy tq3 setup
tq3 and a 4.00 radio shack (momentary for 4wh steer) switch and your golden.

oh, with the big tires you may want to look into the metal yokes

Gettin there, still some fine tuning, bb's, elecs, etc. But not bad :)
I do plan on lowering the body a little more when I get it trimmed so no comments on how stupid it looks please LOL

Oh yeah, and without the body on it had a full 90 degrees of articulation :drool

Nick,
not sure if you really want that much articulation. And if the diffs are locked it won't matter.
Sometimes too much artic is not good. You don't want it so much it limits traction.

real 1:1's limit it so that gravity has an effect, once it gets extreme it loses any gains.

I like it though, reminds me of the old mud boggers of my youth back in the 80's.

If that was a Ferd body and blue it would be Chandlers big turd when it had 10 foot tires.

Yeah, ive always been a fan of 80's MT's so I also like the looks of it. Without having to push the truck down it gets useable artic, about 65 degrees? Pretty much what the pic shows :) Im happy, now I want to get it going so I can see what I need to fix...

throw a battery in about where you want it and tape it in place then recheck everything.
That way if it hits, or the balence is to far off you can adjust it now

I have a 1/18 battery in AK that im waiting for, I may run a 6 cell pack for now in it. I just counted out 450 bb's for each tire last night, that was fun... Ill try to get some outdoor pics of it when it stops raining. Im pretty happy with it overall but I have this feeling that even though the driveshafts seem fine, they are going to fall out, the other problem I see is that the links may rub against the tires. Ill have to redo the body mount setup, as they are just pieces of lexan bent in an L shape with Duratrax body posts on them. I also want to tear the chassis down, and either paint or polish it. Still waiting for a painter for a hard body to custom paint my hard Clod body, etc. Im pretty proud of how this truck turned out though, I started with a body and some axles and knew what I wanted, after a few weeks it turned out pretty dang good I think :)

get super blackfoot axles for it, it'll widen it by 1/2-3/4 inch overall
that should help keep the tires off your links.
they're 7.99 a pair so not a bad investment. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXGG15

Did you think about a pajero shaft for the rear? It's longer than what you need, cut it and grind a new flatspot for the u-joint.

That'll last in your rig. ;)

Well, I finally got to drive it. The rear shaft popped out and twisted and the tire fell off LOL. I fixed it by putting a metal rod into the shaft and glueing it in. The truck flops side to side, the tires drag the fenders, the rear diff came unlocked, the rear steer doesnt work right (2 pos. toggle, goes one way or straight and wont completely straighten) battery only lasted a few minutes, etc. but its pretty fun :)
